National Breastfeeding Month is observed every August in the United States. It was officially declared in 2011 by the U.S. Breastfeeding Committee to raise awareness of the health benefits of breastfeeding and improve support for families.

The 2026 theme is "RISE: Resilience, Interdependence, Self-Determination, Empowerment."

Goals and Focus:
* Health Benefits: Highlights research showing that breast milk provides ideal nutrition and protects infants from infections and illnesses.
* Equity and Access: Focuses on closing racial and regional gaps in breastfeeding support and lowering barriers for diverse communities.
* Policy and Support: Promotes better workplace accommodation, community resources, and professional counseling for nursing parents.

The judicial system can be overwhelming for families going through civil court proceedings. Questions about child support, housing and other legal proceedings are often accompanied by uncertainty, misinformation and anxiety. To help them overcome these barriers, New Haven Healthy Start (NHHS) brought local families into an open and informative conversation with members of Connecticut’s judiciary. Chief Family Support Magistrate Michael L. Ferguson and Chief Clerk for Housing Matters William C. Pitt shared practical guidance on preparing for court, communicating effectively with the courts and accessing available resources, in a conversation moderated by NHHS Fatherhood Coordinator Rodney Moore.
