The Quinnipiac River Fund was created to improve the environmental quality of the Quinnipiac River, New Haven Harbor and its surrounding watersheds, and otherwise to benefit the environment of these resources. Each year the Fund distributes more than $100,000 to projects that conserve and protect the River and surrounding watersheds. The Fund supports projects focused on research, public access, land use planning, land acquisition, habitat restoration, advocacy, and education.

Thank you Yale Daily News for the coverage of this important work by Quinnipiac University Professor Courtney McGinnis and her research team to keep our local waterways clean. For more than a decade, studies by McGinnis and the late Dr. Harry Pylypiw of Quinnipiac University have tracked the levels and sources of contamination. Their projects and others supported by the fund can be found at thequinnipiacriver.com.

Local scientists and volunteers are trying to reduce pollution in the Quinnipiac — once one of Connecticut's most polluted rivers — through water monitoring and cleanup events.
