Feeding Programs

The Food Pantry provides food for those unemployed or who have fallen through the cracks. Last year, we served 39,949 meals and filled over 4,400 grocery bags. Assistance Programs

Various services are available to aid our community members in crisis. We assist them in preventing utility shut-offs and provide them with food, clothing, furniture, and holiday assistance (food, clothing, and toys). Through our Citadel, we use volunteers to assist in stocking our pantry, sorting clothing, packing food, and collecting clothing and toys, as well as aiding in distribution. We also operate a "Diaper Bank" to assist families with little children on a weekly basis. Youth Music Program

This program offers various music classes for children, including brass instrument instruction, sacred dance, and singing. Its purpose is not only to improve musical skills, but also social skills. All performance pieces are Christian-based so children can also grow spiritually, as well as mentally. Our staff/volunteers are dedicated to helping children find their musical talents and developing them, encouraging participants to share what makes them unique. Opportunities for public performance and contests are offered so that children can experience personal achievement. Holiday Programs

We distributed 4,373 gifts during this past holiday season. With the help and generosity of businesses, schools, social groups, churches, and individuals, we were able to provide happiness to those in need during the holiday season. Summer Camp

Camp CONNRI is situated on 272 acres of rolling hills in Ashford, Connecticut. Campers enjoy a wide variety of activities for a week, including: swimming, hiking, fishing, boating, baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, nature studies, arts and crafts, and much more. Greater New Haven sponsored more than 20 children for summer camp this year.

After many years of faithful service, we share a heartfelt farewell to Majors Charles and Kathy Adams as they conclude their time at The Salvation Army of New Haven.

Throughout the years, Majors Adams have become so much more than Corps Officers—they have been trusted leaders, compassionate servants, mentors, friends, and a steady presence within the New Haven community. The photos shared here reflect only a small part of the countless relationships they have built, lives they have touched, and memories they have created along the way.

Their dedication, kindness, and unwavering commitment to serving others have left a lasting mark on the Corps and throughout the city of New Haven. While their presence will be deeply missed, the impact of their ministry will continue to be felt for years to come.

Thank you, Majors Charles and Kathy Adams, for the love, leadership, and many years of service you have given to New Haven. We send you into your next chapter with tremendous gratitude, warm memories, and many prayers for all that lies ahead.

National Donut Day 2026 was a tremendous success across Connecticut & Rhode Island! Salvation Army officers, staff, and volunteers spent the day delivering donuts and words of appreciation to veterans, first responders, healthcare workers, community partners, and community members throughout the state.

Every stop was an opportunity to share the story of the Donut Lassies and continue a tradition that began more than 100 years ago on the front lines of World War I.

Thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate, serve, and spread a little joy along the way. We loved seeing the smiles, hearing the stories, and honoring those who serve our communities every day.

Thank you again to Lyman Orchards!

Until next year, Donut Day! 🍩❤️

Another successful Donut Day is in the books, thanks to the generosity of our community partners. A heartfelt thank you to Lyman Orchards for donating 700 fresh donuts, helping us celebrate this cherished Salvation Army tradition in a meaningful way. Salvation Army officers from across Connecticut picked up their donuts this morning and will be sharing them with veterans at VA hospitals throughout the state.

As we celebrate, we also honor the legacy of The Salvation Army's Donut Lassies. During World War I, these courageous women served alongside soldiers near the front lines, providing comfort, encouragement, and of course, fresh donuts. What began as a simple gesture of care more than a century ago has grown into the National Donut Day tradition we continue today.

Today is about more than donuts. It's about remembering those who served, honoring those who continue to serve, and sharing a moment of kindness with our veterans. We're proud to carry on that tradition and grateful to everyone helping make it possible.
