Community Needs Assessment Internship
New Haven Pride Center | Fall 2026
The New Haven Pride Center is seeking interns to support a Community Needs Assessment of LGBTQ+ communities in New Haven. The assessment will identify community priorities, barriers to accessing services, and opportunities to strengthen the Center’s programs and partnerships.
Interns will work alongside the project’s Lead Researcher from the Yale School of Public Health, committing approximately five hours per week from early September through early December 2026. Start dates are flexible. The role is primarily community-based fieldwork: helping conduct surveys, interviews, and focus groups with residents in settings such as:
• q***r bars, cafés, and restaurants
• nonprofits and community-based organizations serving LGBTQ+ populations
• schools and universities
• community events, including the New Haven Pride Festival
• other gathering spaces across the city
This position is well suited to anyone interested in LGBTQ+ health and advocacy, community-based research, public health, qualitative methods, or nonprofit work. Because the work depends on direct outreach, applicants should be comfortable approaching and speaking with people from a wide range of backgrounds. Prior research experience is welcome but not required.
