The legislative session is over, and now candidates are coming to you for support. Before you give it, ask them where they stand. 's tax system puts a heavier burden on working families than on the wealthy, and with federal cuts on the way, the stakes are only getting higher.

Go through to post and see what every candidate should be willing to commit to this election season.

Every child deserves the chance to thrive, but outcomes for kids and families still vary widely across the country. The 2026 KIDS COUNT® Data Book from Annie E. Casey Foundation highlights where states are making progress for children and where challenges remain across economic well-being, education, health and family/community factors.

This year’s enhanced KIDS COUNT index adds scores alongside rankings to better show how child well-being has changed over time since 2019. While many states have made gains in areas like family economic stability and community well-being, education setbacks continue to affect children nationwide. The 2026 KIDS COUNT® Data Book is out now! Produced in partnership with Annie E. Casey Foundation, this annual report provides trusted data on how children and families are faring in every state across the country. This year’s enhanced KIDS COUNT index adds scores alongside rankings to better show where progress is happening and where kids need more support.

“Connecticut's overall high ranking is something to be proud of, but evidence we are not doing enough—we must engage in big, bold policy changes that advance economic security for all families, not just the privileged and lucky few. The data show both the impact of investments that support children and families and the consequences of longstanding status quo budgets that don’t address equity and opportunity,” said Emily Byrne, executive director of Connecticut Voices for Children. “As federal cuts threaten to increase hardship for many households, Connecticut has a responsibility to continue investing in policies that reduce child poverty, expand opportunity, and ensure every child can share in the state's prosperity.”

The Farm Bill is now in the U.S. Senate, and Connecticut families are counting on our Senators to get this right.

The SNAP cuts from the One Big Beautiful Bill are already in effect. The Farm Bill was supposed to be the opportunity to fight back, but the House-passed version falls short. It does not include a delay of the cost shift that would force states to absorb drastically more administrative costs. A two-year delay has already been extended to the highest-error states. But ALL state deserves the same extension.

The Senate has a chance to fix this. Without action, however, families could lose access to the food assistance they depend on.

Contact our U.S. Senators today and urge them to include the two-year cost shift delay for all states: (202) 224-3121

Every child deserves the opportunity to grow up safe, supported, and seen, regardless of who they are, who they love, or what family they come home to.

LGBTQIA+ youth and families are among the most vulnerable in our state and our country. Young people face higher rates of housing instability, poverty, and family rejection. LGBTQIA+ families navigate systems and policies that were not always built with them in mind. They all deserve the same investment, protection, and care as every other family in .

is a celebration. It is also a reminder that every child means every child. Every family means every family. And we are not done until Connecticut works for all of them.

The IRS is phasing out paper checks, and for families without a bank account or direct deposit set up, that could mean waiting up to six weeks longer for a refund they're counting on.

That's not a minor inconvenience. For families living paycheck to paycheck, six weeks is a long time. And for the unbanked, this is also an equity challenge.

However, there are resources available to help. Your refund is yours. Don't let a paperwork barrier get in the way.

Connecticut just made history on protection, and children are at the center of it.

SB 5, now Public Act No. 26-15, is officially law, making one of the most comprehensive AI protection states in the country. From predatory marketing to addictive algorithm feeds, this legislation takes direct aim at the practices putting kids at risk in the digital age. Go through this post to know what it means for the state's families.

There's much more work to be done to ensure AI is safe, responsible, and centers our humanity. But SB 5 is a very good start.
