In July of 2009 while Sabir Abdussabur, founder and president of the Youth Day Project, was attending a summer intensive in Fishers, Indiana, he was encouraged to create a Facebook to stay in touch with his fellow classmates. At the same time he was in the process of drafting an event that would celebrate the 2 year anniversary of TYR: The Youth Revolution International Youth Development’s existen
ce. In talking to his colleagues at the time, they call came to a consensus that the event should not be exclusive to the members of TYR but open to the public. Soon the theme was drafted to “Celebrate the talents of the Youth.” Soon after, Sabir used Facebook as a networking tool by randomly adding other individuals who had any amount of mutual friends. In adding these individuals he became acquainted one of the first people to assist him in the new project, Kiana Llanos, current Florida Liaison. With her assistance, he was introduced to Firm Entertainment, a group of artist supported by Firm Apparel, a Muslim clothing line based out of Houston, Texas. With the support of Firm Entertainment, he began to advertise on Facebook: Youth Day 2010 coming to New Haven, CT. When Youth Day 2010 began on the morning of January 9, 2010 at 11:00AM EST, all 27 volunteers were in place and all activities ran accordingly. Youth Day 2010 catered to over 300 people in a single day and concluded with a staff exclusive banquet at a local restaurant. The success of Youth Day 2010 resulted in much of the support that it has today. Many of our current sponsors are participants and attendees of Youth Day 2010, which has evolved into what is known today as the Youth Day Project. The Youth Day Project no longer is focused around the anniversary of TYR, but is now focused around celebrating the talents of our youth. This is envisioned to happen on an annual basis in multiple cities around the world.
