Central Connecticut Coast YMCA The Y: We're for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Since 1859 the Central Connecticut Coast Y branches have served as community centers in the heart of the twenty-five towns we serve. Much of the Central Connecticut Coast Y’s work is supported by membership dues, program fees and grants, but central to our mission is the commitment to make the Y affordable and accessible to all, regardless of ability to pay.

Movement for Every Body.

This World Arthritis Day, we’re recognizing the importance of staying active in ways that feel right for you. Whether it’s stretching, walking, swimming, or simply finding ways to keep moving throughout the day, every movement can be a step toward greater strength, connection and well-being.

At the Y, we’re here to help everyone find opportunities to move, feel supported and thrive. 💪

For Jahaira Burns, leadership is more than professional success. It’s about creating opportunities, lifting others up, and giving back to the community that helped shape who she is today.

Born and raised in Bridgeport, Jahaira has built an inspiring career in healthcare, beginning as a Medical Assistant and advancing into her current role as Regional Practice Manager with Hartford HealthCare Medical Group, where she supports General Surgery and Acute Care Trauma across the Fairfield Region.

Recognized as Hartford HealthCare's 2025 Specialty Care Manager of the Year, Jahaira is passionate about developing strong teams, mentoring future leaders, and helping others discover their potential.

Her dedication to service extends well beyond the workplace. A graduate of Leadership Greater Bridgeport, Cohort 37, Jahaira volunteers locally and participates in several Hartford HealthCare Colleague Resource Groups, including SOMOS, the Black and African American CRG, and the LGBTQ+ CRG. Through these efforts, she helps foster environments where people feel valued, supported, and included.

As a wife, mother of two, and lifelong Bridgeport resident, Jahaira understands the importance of creating opportunities for the next generation.

Her decision to join the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA Board of Directors reflects a deeply personal commitment to strengthening her hometown, supporting local families, and helping children thrive. She is especially passionate about expanding opportunities for children with disabilities and children who need additional educational support.

For Jahaira, serving on the Y's Board is an opportunity to turn her passion for community into meaningful action—building relationships, learning from others, and helping create a brighter future for Bridgeport families.

We are proud to welcome Jahaira Burns to our Board of Directors and grateful for the experience, compassion, and community-centered leadership she brings to our Y.

Please join us in welcoming Jahaira!

What does home mean to you?

A warm bed.
A family gathered around the table.
A place to feel safe.
A front door you can close.
A place where you know you belong.

For too many of our neighbors, those things are not guaranteed.

This holiday season, Alpha Community Services YMCA is bringing our community together for A Home for the Holidays, an evening dedicated to creating hope and stability for people experiencing homelessness.

Healthy Kids. Stronger Communities.

This National Child Health Day, we’re celebrating the importance of giving every child the opportunity to grow, learn, connect and thrive.

At the Y, we help children and families build healthy habits, develop confidence and access supportive environments that help them reach their full potential. Because when kids are healthy and supported, our whole community is stronger.

Let’s continue creating communities where every child has the opportunity to thrive.

The Y isn’t just part of Diana’s work life, it’s become part of her family’s story, too.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, meet Diana Dela Rosa, Human Resources/Payroll Coordinator at the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA. A proud Mexican American, Diana carries with her the values of family, hard work, perseverance and being there for others—values she sees reflected in the Y community every day.

For the past 4.5 years, Diana has been part of the Y team, but her connection to the Y goes beyond the workplace. Her daughter has attended Camp Mountain Laurel and Camp Wepawaug, celebrated birthdays at the Soundview Family Y and Lakewood Trumbull Y, and even learned to swim at the Woodruff Family Y.

For Diana, the Y represents community, opportunity and a place where everyone can feel welcome and belong.

We’re grateful to celebrate Diana and the many ways the Y becomes part of the lives of the families we serve. 💙

September is Hunger Action Month, a time to come together and take action so everyone has access to the healthy food they need to thrive.

At the Y, we believe strong communities are built when everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential. Together with our community partners, we’re working to expand access to healthy food and address barriers that contribute to hunger and food insecurity.

Join us in taking action: learn, share, volunteer, donate, or find a way to support a neighbor in your community.

Did you know? Several Y locations throughout our service area offer food pantries to help ensure individuals and families have access to nutritious food when they need it. Visit https://cccymca.org/blog/2025/10/30/no-one-should-go-hungry/ to learn more

Together, we can help ensure everyone has a seat at the table. For a better us.
