A few snapshots from an inspiring few days at the 2026 LSA Conference in New Orleans.

We’re deeply thankful to everyone who took time to connect with us, ask thoughtful questions, and support our work through donations.

And a big thank you to the Linguistic Society of America for hosting such a vibrant, welcoming space for revitalization and care for languages worldwide.

The Language Legacies grant program supports documentation and revitalization efforts throughout the world. It is open to community members and researchers from any country (with the exception of those who are eligible for our Native Voices Endowment (NVE) grants). An academic degree is not required, but the application must provide evidence that the applicant can achieve the stated goals. Grants are for one year and average around $2,000 (US).

ELF is proud to provide student scholarships, enabling everyone to attend the CoLang Institute, a biennial gathering where participants learn about language documentation, descriptive linguistics, and language revitalization.

We have also provided administrative support to the CoLang Web Committee, which maintains a permanent archive and website for the institute. While our administrative partnership has come to an end, we are reaching out to ask for your help in donating to the Web Committee today, so that attendees, language activists, and community members can continue to access CoLang's valuable digital resources.

Eric Silberberg and his collaborator, Juan XĂtjĹŤahnko Cruz recently focused on a language revitalization program in Los Reyes Metzontla, Puebla, Mexico.

Historically, the community spoke Ngiva, which is currently classified as a highly endangered language. The goal was to create a children’s book to teach basic Ngiva to elementary school students. This book uses the community’s internationally recognized

tradition of artisanal pottery as a medium to document its specialized vocabulary and to establish an accessible

pedagogical resource for language instruction. Through a Language Legacy Grant from the Endangered Language Fund, Eric and XĂtjĹŤahnko created an elementary school book featuring pictures and translations that capture the vibrant landscape and descriptions of community members engaged in their traditional pottery creation. XĂtjĹŤahnko is now in the process of distributing these books to the elementary school and town library in Metzontla.

Through innovative grants, internships, and funding support, ELF helps scaffold native communities to keep their native voices and cultures vibrant. Please continue to support our work by donating to the Endangered Language Fund. Link is in our profile.
