Yale Engineers Without Borders USA

Yale Engineers Without Borders USA We are a team of dedicated students, staff, and mentors who work to solve problems facing communities around the world.

The Yale Chapter of EWB was founded in 2004. Since then, we have worked hard to bring several projects to fruition. In 2006, we completed our first international project by building a water collection system in El Rosario, Honduras. We are currently supporting the community of Kikoo, Cameroon in the construction of a community water system, and building a rainwater catchment system at the Yale Farm.

This , please consider supporting Yale’s Chapter of Engineers Without Borders, which is currently working on a large-scale pond restoration in Naitolia, Tanzania. Several years ago, a crucial reservoir in the region dried up, leaving many community members in Naitolia searching for clean, easily accessible water. In 2018, we initiated work on the pond in the hopes that the reservoir could begin partially holding water again. This summer, we returned to Naitolia to continue work on the pond as well as survey an existing water distribution pipeline, conduct community meetings, and teach students sanitation lessons. After only one year of work, the pond is now holding water, even at the peak of Naitolia’s dry season. However, our work with this community is not nearly complete. There is still much we can do to ensure the sustainability and reliability of the pond as well as to address water quality and sanitation concerns. This year in addition to continuing pond construction, we will begin working on the expansion of a water distribution system that will provide the community with easy, reliable access to clean water.

This Giving Tuesday, we would be so grateful if you considered contributing whatever you can to this fantastic organization through our End-of-the-Year Fundraiser.

EWB is an international humanitarian organization dedicated to human rights-focused infrastructure projects, and the Yale chapter has been working alongside the community of Naitolia for the past three years on water access and quality improvements. The construction of this pond is just the first step in this collaboration — with your help, we hope to extend the reach of the existing pipe infrastructure for clean well water, create sanitation educational materials, help empower the women’s organizations in the community, and continue increasing volume capacity in the pond.
100% of your donations will go toward the project itself. If you want to learn more about the organization or our work, please feel free to reach out!

Thanks and happy holidays!

Today we led three sessions in Naitolia’s primary school! We taught students about strategies to prevent water contamination and showed them how to test for bacteria in water using petri films. On Wednesday, we’ll return to the school to show them what the developed films look like for different water sources in the community.

Our travel team members just returned from an assessment trip in Cameroon, where we evaluated potential new spring sources for ensuring a steady supply of clean water to Roh during the driest months of the year. We wanted to share a video with you that we prepared to document what we did on the trip. A big thank you to the family and friends that continue to support our mission.

Two Days Left for the End-of-the-year Fundraiser!

Dear Friends,

Some of you may know this already, but in a couple of days we will be sending a travel team to Rohvitangitaa, Cameroon to continue our water distribution project. Since 2006, EWB Yale has been working with partners in Cameroon to build water distribution systems that provide access to clean water to the rural communities of Kikoo and Roh, which would otherwise need to travel long distances or rely on contaminated streams. This trip, we will be testing for water contamination and surveying potential new water sources to increase flow during the dry season.

Each holiday season, EWB Yale holds a fundraiser to support this work, and all the money raised goes toward the community and building materials. We are fortunate that all student travel is covered separately by Yale fellowships, so 100% of the proceeds can go directly to the community.

To make a donation to the Yale Chapter by the deadline of January 1st, please follow this link: https://ssl.charityweb.net/ewbusa/pfp/engineerswithoutbordersyale.htm
And / or if you’d like to support in another way, share this post!

Thanks and Happy Holidays,

Dear EWB-Yale friends and family,

The Alcoa Foundation announced this week that EWB Yale was selected alongside four other Engineers Without Borders USA chapters to receive grant funding as part of the Creation of a Global Engineer Program. The program is designed to create and replicate the best practices of “learning through service programs” that develop skills in leadership, project management, communication, systems thinking and community and personal engagement.

EWB Yale will utilize its funding to support the Kikoo-Rohvitangitaa Water Supply and Distribution Project, which combines engineering, health, and education efforts in rural communities in Cameroon.

Dear friends and family,
Thank you for your support throughout the years. Without you, we wouldn't have been able to make such sustainable and impactful change to health and water access in our partner community of Rohvitangitaa.
We can't continue this work without you. Please consider donating to our end of year campaign! If you would like to learn more about who we are and what we do, please email us at any time! [email protected]. We're always happy to talk to you.

A few years ago, as we were finishing up our project in Kikoo, Cameroon, the adjacent village of Rohvitangitaa asked for our help. They had a broken water distribution system, and a lot of the villagers were getting sick. In 2012, EWB-Yale adopted our current project to provide the people of Roh w…
