Meet the Neighbors Back to School Edition is happening today.

It is a little cloudy and there may be some light rain, but we will still be outside and ready to serve our community.

Please make sure you arrive by 4 PM to receive your items. The event is scheduled to end at 6 PM, weather permitting.

If the rain picks up and conditions become unsafe, we may have to end the event early.

We look forward to seeing everyone today at Edgewood Park.

🎒📚 MEET THE NEIGHBORS – BACK TO SCHOOL EDITION! 👟👕❤️

Join us as we come together to support children and families in our community!

📍 Edgewood Park, Edgewood Avenue, New Haven

This month, we’re collecting items specifically for elementary, middle, and high school students. We are asking for:

✅ New or gently used clothing for boys and girls
✅ New or gently used shoes and sneakers
✅ School supplies (backpacks, notebooks, pencils, crayons, etc.)
✅ Books for all ages
✅ Hygiene products (soap, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, feminine products, etc.)

💙 Not able to donate items? You can still help!

📢 EVENT UPDATE – MEET THE NEIGHBORS

After closely monitoring the weather forecast throughout the morning, we have made the decision to postpone today’s Meet the Neighbors event due to the expected rain.

Because we will have clothing, shoes, books, hygiene products, toys, and other donations available for the community, we do not want these items to be damaged by the weather.

The event has been rescheduled for Saturday, July 11, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Scantlebury Park, 139 Ashmun St., New Haven.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate everyone’s understanding. Thank you to all of our volunteers, sponsors, and community members for your continued support. We look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday, July 11!

Weather Update for Meet the Neighbors – Saturday, June 27

We are closely monitoring the weather for Saturday’s event. If rain causes us to postpone, we will make the official announcement by 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 27.

If the event is postponed, the new date will be Saturday, July 11, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

📢 Meet the Neighbors – Volunteer & Community Donation Event

New Haven residents join us for our monthly Meet the Neighbors event!

We have received a tremendous amount of donations and are looking for additional volunteers to help make this community gathering a success.

📍 Location: Scantlebury Park, 139 Ashmun St., New Haven
🗓️ Saturday, June 27, 2026
⏰ Community Gathering: 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Volunteers Needed

We are seeking volunteers to assist with:

✅ Setting up shoes, toys, books, and other donated items
✅ Organizing donation tables and displays
✅ Greeting community members and answering questions
✅ Collecting contact information for future community events
✅ Passing out flyers throughout the park and surrounding area to help spread awareness of our programs and upcoming events
✅ Assisting with event breakdown and cleanup

Volunteer Shift Options

Setup Team
🕑 Arrive at 2:00 PM

* Help organize and set up donations
* Prepare tables and displays
* Assist with volunteer coordination
* Stay as long as you are able (approximately until 4:30 PM)

Event & Breakdown Team
🕓 Arrive at 4:00 PM

* Assist during the event
* Pass out flyers to community members
* Help collect community contact information
* Assist with cleanup and breakdown
* Stay until approximately 6:30 PM, if available

Please Note: Volunteers are not required to stay for the entire shift. Any amount of time you can contribute is greatly appreciated.

Introducing the Beginners Network Grant by Black Corner Investments Inc.

Founded by Executive Director Kenia Massey (affectionately known as MrsKay Massey)

Black Corner Investments Inc is proud to announce its very first grant initiative—The Beginners Network Grant—created specifically to support startup businesses and entrepreneurs within their first year of operation.

If anyone understands the ups and downs of starting a business, it’s Mrs. Kay. Like many small business owners, I started with a powerful vision—believing everything would work out. But as time passed and business slowed down, I faced the harsh reality that without support, even the best ideas can struggle. What made a difference in my journey? Grants. I believed that the right grant at the right time can not only save a business but help it grow and thrive.

That’s why I’m paying it forward by launching my first grant program to uplift other small business owners. I’ve personally invested my own funds into this effort, and to continue building this for future rounds, a $20 application fee is required from each applicant. This fee will go directly toward helping more businesses in future rounds—your contribution keeps the mission alive.

About the Grant:
• Launch Date: April 15th, 2025
• Application Deadline: June 15th, 2025
• Winners Announced: July (TBD)
• Number of Awards: 2 Grants
• Grant Amount: Up to $2,500 each
• One grant will go to a startup business (pre-launch or just launched)
• One grant will go to a business that’s been operating for 6 to 12 months
• Judging Process: A bipartisan panel of 3 judges will review all applications and select the winners fairly and transparently.

This is more than a grant—it’s a lifeline, a boost, and a belief in your potential. If you’re ready to take your business to the next level and could use the extra support, we encourage you to apply and be part of something meaningful.
