It’s Spring, plants will grow again and it’s an additional opportunity to think at our relation with nature and at our personal impact on it: our use of plastics, our use of public transports (and the government actual offering of efficient and clean public transports as an alternative to cars), our consumption of environment-friendly goods and foods, etc. (Obviously, some would say the biggest polluters are elsewhere, but if everyone systematically points out others’ actions before acting, nothing ever changes.)
French songs have a strong tendency to have an emphasis on lyrics, many are "engagées". There are many on the environment crisis or celebrating nature, in a culture in which nature (seas, forests, animals…) heavily tends to be part of daily considerations.
There is a popular song from 2003 among those many celebrating nature or talking about its destruction. It’s Respire ("breathe"), by Mickey 3D: https://youtu.be/Iwb6u1Jo1Mc. The video clip is to be watched entirely to be appreciated (or the live version with English subtitles https://youtu.be/4GeFYCM0Vg0 , but the clip is not to be missed – lyrics here too https://lyricstranslate.com/fr/node/108171 ). As the song says, "you won’t die of laughter". Perhaps though the chilling effect can make us think twice in our daily life on our very personal practical impact on nature.
Happy Spring everyone!
