We’ve seen an influx of comments (especially on our new YouTube channel) recently asking why we choose to blur the faces of perpetrators in the cases we work, so we want to again share some reasons for that.
First and foremost, this decision is not because the individuals are actors or because our cases are fake, as some have speculated. Every case we share is real, involving real crimes — something you can see when we later provide conviction and sentencing updates.
I know you may be used to seeing predators “exposed” on other YouTube channels, but this generally happens in the context of vigilanteism, and — unfortunately — those situations often do NOT result in a conviction and sentence. Our approach, which follows the proper legal process and is in conjunction with working with law enforcement, has resulted in a 100% conviction rate for our team.
We do not show someone’s identity until they have been convicted of their crimes — everyone has the right to a trial. The legal process can take a while (our founder, Roo, for example, is still testifying in cases from 2022), so you generally see the case before that has concluded. Once available, we share conviction information on our Instagram account!
Second, the friends and family members of perpetrators are victims in this situation too, and they deserve the space to process what has happened. There are sometimes minor victims involved, as well, and they deserve to navigate the situation in privacy.
Lastly, for those seeking more information, arrest records and s*x offender registry details are publicly accessible online.
Thank you for your questions! This is a nuanced subject, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to share our perspective with you. We are so thankful to have so many folks who care for child safety in our community.
