The ‘2024 Matching Funds Campaign’ Report and Honoring Mr. Charles Knight

A month has gone by since our last post. Time goes slowly sometimes, and sometimes it flies. However you feel about this, today is February 2, 2025 and it is past time to share with everyone our last year’s efforts to raise funds for the cemetery.
If you didn’t hear about it, a donor contacted us with an offer. He would match all the donations we could raise in 2024, up to $20,000. We called it the ‘2024 Matching Funds Campaign’. We set out collecting donations and raising money. By the end of November last year we had collected $20,000 and went over that amount, bringing in a total of $22,266.64.
The $20,000 matching donation amount has been generously given to the New Florence Cemetery Association by Mr. Jake Stambaugh in honor of Mr. Charles Knight who was put to rest in the cemetery last year, 2024.
It is with great appreciation we accept this $20,000 and announce that it will be officially recorded “In Remembrance of Mr. Charles Knight”.

🌲 It’s almost Christmas and the end of another year. We have a few things to let everyone know about. Keep following for info about how we did during the matching funds campaign! We’ll get that out to you before the end of the year. I think everyone will be interested to hear about that!
🌲 But for now, we are letting members know that we have new bylaws proposed and up for viewing. They are pinned on the bulletin board at the cemetery for members to read and consider. Also, they can be seen at New Florence City Hall. A meeting will be held on January 4th, 2025 for members to vote and pass these new bylaws. Members are asked to attend this meeting at the New Florence Fire Protection District. The address is 201 Mortimer St., New Florence, Missouri, 63361. The time is 10:00 a.m. All people are welcome to come to the meeting and learn how to become a member.

🇺🇸 I can’t believe it has taken me a whole month to make this post and thank everyone that participated in this year’s Memorial Weekend Event.
🇺🇸 First, THANK YOU to all the people who decorated, visited with us and gave money towards our “2024 Matching Funds Campaign”. We raised nearly $900, that will be doubled to almost $1800! As always, it was a nice time catching up with cemetery friends and remembering our loved ones who rest here.
🇺🇸 As in year’s past, thanks to Paul Johnson (in photo) for placing flags on each veteran’s grave. That takes a lot of time!
🇺🇸 Thanks to Larry Elflein for being our leader and being dedicated to being at the cemetery all 3 days to greet visitors. You make it fun! Sorry I forgot to take your picture!
🇺🇸 Cathy Nickens, the lovely lady with all the energy, and whose idea this event was originally, thanks for everything! She’s in the red t-shirt and I’m Kelly Widner, I’m in the hat. ‘You’re welcome’ to anyone who thanks me too! lol.
🇺🇸 Thank you to our hard working lawn keepers! What an amazing job they do all season!
🇺🇸 We are so thankful to have the military flag of Mr. Orvy Gerken to display on the wall!
🇺🇸 And thanks to Freda at Montgomery Florist for our Summer Wreath, it’s a beauty!

Another generous donation from Jake Stambaugh and Charles Knight. This beautiful entry is the second made possible by Jake and Charles. If you visit the cemetery and drive in on either of our center roads, you will see how nice they make the cemetery look. Jake and Charles’ contributions over the years have been so important to the needed improvements but also to creating a beautiful cemetery. Sadly, Charles passed away a few months ago, in March. Our hearts go out to Jake and wish him peace during this time.
