Sometimes the phrase “closed country” keeps us from seeing what is actually possible. Some places are legally closed to missionary work. Others are culturally resistant but still open in ways we may not expect. If we flatten every difficult mission field into one category, we can miss real opportunities for faithful gospel ministry.

More than 50 pastors and their families recently gathered in South Asia for the first graduation of the Church Planters’ Institute. It was a milestone worth celebrating, but the graduation took place in tents because the ministry center is still unfinished.

God is raising up church planters to serve across South Asia, and the South Asia Ministry Center will help provide the permanent space needed to train leaders, strengthen churches, disciple believers, and serve the surrounding community.
This is about more than finishing a building. It is about preparing future generations for faithful gospel ministry where Christ is not yet known.

In Uganda, the need is both urgent and deeply personal. Many people identify as Christians, but churches still need sound doctrine, trained leaders, and faithful discipleship. In the north, years of war have left deep wounds, and the hope found in Jesus Christ is desperately needed. At the same time, opportunities to reach Muslims for Christ are growing.

We are asking God to raise up more workers for places like Uganda, where the next generation of church leaders needs to be rooted in God’s Word and communities need lasting gospel hope.

The goal of missions is not simply movement, strategy, or activity. The goal is worship. We go because there are still people who do not know Christ, places where his name is not praised, and communities still waiting to hear the good news of the gospel. Colombia needs more than our concern. Families need shelter. Churches need a place to gather. Pastors need resources to care for people. After a 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia, two ABWE partner churches were hit hard. Many church families in lost their homes, and a church building in Pereira was damaged so badly the congregation can no longer meet there.
