Music Impact Coalition Creating a Brighter Future Through Music Education

Music has the power to raise a whole neighborhood.

Ketch Secor of Old Crow Medicine Show at Take Action x SXSW on what it looks like when music does its deepest work - not just in one child, but in a whole community of kids who carry a song, a message, and a movement forward.

“I look around at those kids and think, these kids got it.”

That’s exactly the world Music Impact Coalition is working to build: one school, one student, one community at a time. 🎵

Some things are too good not to pass down.

Fyütch watched his dad play saxophone as a kid. That love of music became his calling, and now his daughter, GRAMMY winner Aura V, is carrying it forward. Three generations, one unbreakable bond, and a shared belief that music connects us all.

This is why music education matters. When a child grows up surrounded by music, it doesn’t just shape their art. It shapes their life.

“Music doesn’t feel pedantic. You don’t feel like you are being lectured. And no one likes to feel lectured at.”

Sameer Gadhia of Young the Giant in conversation with Cayley Tull of during a Music Impact Coalition roundtable at GRAMMY Week, on how music builds bridges and changes minds not through aggression, but through empathy.

His third album was about his experience as the son of an immigrant. No speech. No TED Talk. Just music, reaching wide swaths of the country and helping people truly understand a story that wasn’t their own.

That’s the power of music as a universal language. And it’s exactly why every student deserves access to it.

“Music gives you life.”

Neil Giraldo at Take Action x SXSW on why music education isn’t just about learning an instrument. It’s about self-esteem, mental health, and giving young people something that makes them feel good inside.

Math and music work together. Rhythm and time are fundamental. And when teachers make it fun, the impact goes far beyond the classroom.

That’s the world Music Impact Coalition is building, one school, one student, one music teacher at a time.

“Can you imagine if you went into your child’s school and they said we’re gonna have to cut math out of the curriculum? That’s just not gonna happen. And music should be parity.”

Mark Barden, Co-Founder of Artist For Action® and Sandy Hook Promise, said it clearly at Take Action x SXSW - the clinical data is there, the anecdotal evidence is there, and the case for music education is undeniable.

Music should be treated as essential as any core subject. The evidence exists. Now we need to change the narrative.

That’s exactly what Music Impact Coalition is here to do.

Tiger La Flor posted a joke about forgetting therapy and trying The Beach Boys instead, and thousands of people responded sharing the exact song that got them through their hardest moments.

Music builds community like nothing else. It transports us. It heals us. And it does it whether we understand why or not.

Imagine what it means for a student who has access to that - not just as a listener, but as a creator. That’s the world Music Impact Coalition is working to build.

“Ingenuity is the mother of creativity.” 🎵

’s Sameer Gadhia and Co-Founder Cayley Tull on the skills music teaches you - and how they translate far beyond the stage.

Music doesn’t just make better musicians. It makes better thinkers, problem solvers, and rule breakers.

That’s exactly why every student deserves access to it.
