🇧🇩 The historic July 2024 mass uprising in saw young people and students take to the streets, driven by their dreams for change and . Yet, their demands were met with a brutal response, marked by violence and abuses. Despite the army’s public pledge to avoid violence, protests intensified. But on 5 August 2024, just hours before ’s resignation, unarmed protesters were shot by a military unit.
At least one was killed by a bullet to the head. A collaborative investigation by Netra News & the Bangladesh Protest Archive (BPA) uncovers the truth. The BPA, an initiative by Activate Rights & WITNESS, documents state-led atrocities and preserves visual evidence of human rights violations.
Through this archive, we aim to collect and safeguard memories and evidence of human rights violations that occurred during protests, focusing primarily on . Ensuring that visual records are systematically preserved to serve as crucial evidence for future efforts both in Bangladesh and at the international level.
