Keep Rockland Beautiful is an environmental not-for-profit organization dedicated to protecting and preserving Rockland's natural environment. For the past 20 years Keep Rockland Beautiful, a local affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, has largely focused on environmental education, litter prevention, and waste reduction. Every year Keep Rockland Beautiful orchestrates hundreds of grassroots cleanu
p initiatives and inspires community members from all parts of Rockland, and beyond, to get outside and keep their neighborhoods clean. Our largest campaign, the Great American Cleanup, incorporates thousands of volunteers each spring. In the months of April and May, thousands of volunteers remove tons of trash from Rockland streets, parks, and waterways. In addition to year-round cleanup initiatives, Keep Rockland Beautiful works with various school districts to engage students of all ages. Earth B.E.A.T. (Basic Environmental Awareness Training) provides a hands-on learning experience to younger students (K-8) by incorporating interactive educational activities on local ecology, waste reduction, and energy conservation. Rockland P.L.U.S. (Planning & Land Use for Students) enables high school-aged students to develop and share ideas and visions on real-life planning issues and decisions. These workshops, organized in conjunction with Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory and Rockland Conservation & Service Corps., allow students to learn more about careers in planning as well as their own leadership potential and environmental interests. Our first 20 years have been filled with devotion to our community and commitment to protecting the environment: truly doing what we love. We hope you'll get involved, and be a part of Keep Rockland Beautiful as we continue to push for a more sustainable future.
