🔴 Who will pay to keep tropical forests standing?

In a new op-ed for Project Syndicate, Carlos Nobre, Co-Chair of the Science Panel for the Amazon, and Lee White, Special Envoy of the Science Panel for the Congo Basin, examine how the Tropical Forest Forever Facility (TFFF) could help address the financing gap for tropical forest conservation.

They discuss how predictable, long-term funding can help change economic incentives, support Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities, and strengthen policies that make standing forests more valuable than clearing them.

🌿🌍 For Indigenous Peoples, Afrodescendant Peoples, and Local Communities, connectivity is not a scientific concept — it is a way of life.

Chapter 5 of the 2025 Amazon Assessment Report, "Connectivities and Territorialities from the Perspectives of Indigenous Peoples, Afrodescendant Peoples, and Local Communities in the Amazon," places these communities' voices at the center of the conversation. It explores how their ways of life, knowledge systems, and ties to territory are deeply and inseparably connected — physically, spiritually, socioculturally, and politically.

The chapter identifies the risks and threats that endanger these vital connections, and highlights the solutions that communities themselves are advancing from their territories.

Nuestra copresidenta, Marielos Peña Claros, participó como una de las ponentes de la edición 2026 de TEDxAmazônia, celebrada a finales de agosto en Baños, Ecuador.

En su charla, Marielos habló sobre una característica fundamental de la Amazonía: su conectividad ecológica y sociocultural. A partir del Informe de Evaluación de la Amazonía 2025 del Panel, explicó cómo los bosques, los ríos, la atmósfera y las sociedades amazónicas están profundamente interconectados, y por qué mantener esta conectividad es esencial para la conservación de la Amazonía.
