Crew 97 congratulates our own Nicole Riad, Rockland District's first female Eagle Scout! Nicole joined the crew earlier this year to complete her Eagle journey after her church was unable to continue to offer a scouting program. This past weekend, Crew 97 and Troop 97G combined to put on a wonderful Court of Honor for Nicole. NYU is her next stop and her future is bright! She serves as an inspiration to the girls in both units to continue to accomplish goals despite difficulties and bumps along the way. Go Nicole!

Julia Amendola of West Nyack, NY has been awarded a $2,000 scholarship by the National Catholic Committee on Scouting® (NCCS) through the Emmett J. Doerr Memorial Scout Scholarship Fund. She is a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of New York. When asked why volunteering is important to her, Julia responded, “When I joined Venturing and learned the Scout Oath, the sentence ‘To help other people at all times’ resonated with me…It was like I was being called to duty, or maybe more appropriately, being called to a vocation.” She received both the NCCS Ad Altare Dei and Pope Pius XII Awards.

Congratulations to Julia of West Nyack on receiving a National Catholic Committee on Scouting Scholarship.

Irving, TX - 06/21/2021 - Julia Amendola of West Nyack, NY has been awarded a $2,000 scholarship by the National Catholic Committee on Scouting® (NCCS) through the Emmett J. Doerr Memorial Scout Scholarship Fund. She is a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of New York. This year eight service scholarships totaling $22,000 were awarded nationwide to recognize Scouts for outstanding service and leadership in four areas: Church, Community, School and Scouting.

Brought up in a Scouting family, volunteering has always held a special place in Julia’s heart. She states, “Ever since I was a little girl, I have wanted to make people smile. That’s probably why I chose Scouting. I remember the first time I heard my brother repeat the Scout Law. The words helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, cheerful and reverent greatly appealed to me. Even then they spoke to who I was.” When asked why volunteering is important to her, Julia responded, “When I joined Venturing and learned the Scout Oath, the sentence ‘To help other people at all times’ also resonated with me…It was like I was being called to duty, or maybe more appropriately, being called to a vocation.”
