Aussie Rescue in West Virginia and Virginia

Aussie Rescue in West Virginia and Virginia THIS IS NOT A RESCUE! We are a group of volunteers in the WV/WPA/VA area who are affiliated with several different 501-3-c rescues in those regions.

This page features Aussies for adoption from various rescues and shelters, including but not limited to Aussie Rescue of the Mid Atlantic, New Spirit Aussie Rescue, & Australian Shepherds FURever. If you're interested in an Aussie posted on this page, please reach out to that rescue. The purpose of this site is to seek assistance in rescuing Aussies and Aussie mixes that need to be pulled from she

lters or rehomed, to bring attention to the Aussies available for adoption, and to celebrate those Aussies that got their forever homes. Organizations represented include Save Our Herders Outreach, Almost Home Herding Dog Rescue, Speak for the Unspoken, New Spirit Aussie Rescue Aussie Rescue of the Mid Atlantic (ARMA) and others.

🆘URGENT RESCUE PARTNER NEEDED🆘

Hope and Faith arrived as strays to the shelter May 27th. Upon our officer’s arrival to the location they were picked up from, it was immediately obvious that the girls had not been properly cared for. Both had urine soaked coats, dirty fur, and were extremely thirsty. Hope Love and Faith Love have been started on antibiotics and were given Capstar on exam. Understandably, they are nervous and confused about where they are. Luckily, they are both food motivated and warm up to you once they have gotten to spend some time with you. We are seeking rescue placement to get these lovely girls out of the shelter as soon as possible. If you are able to help with any of the dogs mentioned, please reach out to [email protected] with the name of your rescue and we will be sure to respond as soon as possible. Thank you!

URGENT: Foster or Foster-to-Adopt Needed for Otis

Otis is a 6 1/2-year-old, neutered, 40 lb blue merle Aussie with a nub. His current family has realized that he is too much for them, and they do not have the time or energy to give him the structure and training he needs.

Otis is a sweetheart and a cuddler who has never met a stranger. He is a happy, friendly boy who loves toys of all kinds. He has done well with other dogs, including the current family’s dog and the evaluator’s dog. It is not known whether he has lived with children, and based on his current behavior, he would not be a fit for a home with cats. Otis also does not like the pigs on the current family’s farm.

Otis is very social with people. When he sees a stranger, he runs over to greet them. He is not a jumper, and he allows people to pet him all over. He does want to chase squirrels, alerts when cars go by, and barks when someone comes to the house. He does not resource guard. He is food motivated, will automatically sit for a treat, knows his name, and does well in the car.

Otis is described as a medium-energy dog. He does pull on leash, as he was rarely on leash at his first owner’s farm, so his foster or foster-to-adopt home will need to continue working with him on leash manners, potty training, and basic structure.

We are looking for a foster or foster-to-adopt home for this precious boy. Otis needs someone who can give him patience, consistency, and guidance as he settles in and learns what is expected of him.

We have a video we can send if interested. If you are interested in opening your home to this happy guy, please let us know!

Get ready Aussie Rescue of the Mid-Atlantic - ARMA is excited to welcome Athena and Loki to our program!

Athena and Loki are beautiful 6-year-old red merle Aussie siblings searching for a loving forever home together. These bonded littermates have recently experienced a lot of change in their lives and are now looking for a fresh start with a family who will give them the stability, patience, and love they deserve. Loki is the larger male, he's 60 pounds and Athena is the smaller female at 45ish pounds. They are currently in Virginia.

Athena and Loki are very bonded and complement each other beautifully, which is why they are looking for a home together. They are both potty trained, know basic commands such as sit, stay, and leave it, and are classic Velcro Aussies who love being close to their people.

Loki is neutered. Athena will need to be spayed, so ARMA is offering this stunning pair as foster-to-adopt. ARMA will work with their new family to coordinate and pay for Athena’s spay.

Here is a little bit about each wonderful Aussie --

Athena

Athena is the quieter, more sensitive, and lower-energy of the pair. She can be shy and cautious when meeting new people, but once she feels safe, her sweet personality begins to shine. During her evaluation, she steadily grew more comfortable and even sought affection by sitting on someone’s feet and gazing up with adoring eyes.

Athena will thrive with patient adopters who understand that trust takes time. Since she previously lived a country lifestyle with the freedom to roam outdoors, she has had little to no leash training and is still learning confidence with leash walking. Despite that, she showed encouraging progress during her evaluation. With consistency, gentle encouragement, enrichment, and continued education, Athena has all the potential to blossom into an incredibly devoted companion.

Loki

Loki is the more outgoing, higher-energy, classic “happy Aussie” of the duo. He is friendly, treat motivated, and enjoys interacting with people once introductions are made. While sudden surprises or unfamiliar visitors may startle him initially, he warms up quickly and responds very well to reassurance and positive interaction.

Loki is playful, athletic, and loves a good game of frisbee — he can even do a backflip to catch one. Like Athena, he previously enjoyed a rural lifestyle with freedom to roam and has had little to no leash training. He has shown good potential around other dogs when introductions are handled appropriately. Loki brings confidence and energy to the pair and helps Athena feel more secure.

Their Ideal Home

Athena and Loki are looking for a home that understands the needs of herding breeds and is committed to giving them both the physical activity, structure, and mental enrichment Aussies thrive on. Their ideal home would be in a quieter setting, as they are accustomed to country life and a more peaceful environment.

They would especially love a family who enjoys spending time outdoors, tossing a frisbee or ball, and including them in daily life. These are smart Aussies who would thrive with continued education, confidence-building, and positive reinforcement training. Like many Aussies, they enjoy engagement and interaction with their people and will do best with adopters who can provide routine, patience, and gentle guidance as they adjust to a new home.

These two have been through tremendous change, but despite it all, they remain loving, resilient dogs who are ready to bond deeply with the right family.

If you are looking for a pair of loyal, loving companions and are willing to give them the time and understanding they deserve, Athena and Loki may be the perfect addition to your home.

If you are already an approved ARMA adopter and are interested in Athena and Loki, please contact the volunteer you have been working with.
