Yesterday, I stopped by Art at 106 on South Main Street in New Castle to watch silversmith Josh Peralta work his magic, and I came home with two treasures!

Josh handcrafted this adorable turquoise ring and a beautiful silver wire ring right on the spot. I met up with Cordelia Miller and Cynthia Miller to watch the process, and it was fascinating to see a simple piece of silver transformed into something so beautiful. Cynthia and I even ended up with matching rings. And bonus, Beth and Bob Keiser stopped by as well.

If you missed it, there’s still time to join the fun. Josh will be set up on the lawn outside Art at 106 every Friday in June, demonstrating his craft and showcasing his handmade jewelry.

Whether you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind gift for someone special or a little something for yourself, it’s worth stopping by to see his artistry in action.

And let’s be honest… sometimes the perfect gift is the one that accidentally follows you home.

Fair warning: these photos may cause an irresistible urge to buy jewelry next Friday.

I want to thank the Henry County Arts and Crafts Guild for hosting my book signing today. I appreciate the support. It was a great afternoon and my family was so impressed with Art at 106. Thanks to Tom Sanker for helping with the sale.

I’m so honored to be part of this group. Thank you Lesa Pickinpaugh, and Cordelia Miller for the delicious cookies, Marcy Eshbaugh for her legendary lemon bars, and Lillian Owens for her scrumptious lemon poppyseed bread. And Lynn Peyton Wilson and the Eminence Baptist church…what can I say? You outdid yourselves—thanks for the fruit, sandwiches, veggie tray, and cookies. Your support means the world to me.

Also, thank you to everyone who took time to attend the event. It was well attended!

And of course, I must thank Joe Durbin for the great newspaper article in the Oldham Era and Henry County Local. Some of the folks who attended were there because of your article. You did a great job.

Oh…one more thing…I sold out of books! I’ll be going to pick up some more soon. This is due to your support. I can’t thank you enough.

We’re so grateful to everyone who played a part in bringing “Awakening” to Art @ 106. From the grant support to the vision behind it, this piece carries a story with it.

So here are a few more snapshots from the day it found its home—because one post just wasn’t enough.

Yesterday was a special day at Art @ 106.

On March 20th, we welcomed a beautiful new sculpture titled “Awakening” to our space—and it’s already part of the family.

This piece came to us through a grant made possible by the Swedish Match Company of Owensboro.

The application was submitted by Jonathan “Gabe” Adams, grandson of Sharon Silvers, which makes this even more meaningful for our local community.

The sculpture was created by Dave Caudill of Oldham County, and it truly lives up to its name. There’s something about it that makes you pause… and maybe even see things a little differently.

Moments like this remind us how art connects generations, stories, and people in ways that sneak up on you—in the best way.

We’d love for you to stop by and see it for yourself. Come by Art @ 106 and take a look. You might just have your own little “awakening.”

Class time at Art @106!

What a wonderful afternoon we had weaving one-of-a-kind leather canisters!
Each piece started with beautifully turned wood, and by the end of class, those simple forms had been transformed with colorful leather weaving and optional decorative cord into something completely unique. It was amazing to watch each personality come through in the patterns and color choices.

No experience was required — just curiosity and a willingness to jump in. With all materials provided, everyone was free to relax, laugh a little, concentrate hard, and enjoy the rhythm of creating.

A huge thank-you to basket artist Margaret Fadeley for leading the workshop and to Mary Mielczarek for assisting. You made learning something new feel both easy and fun!

Art at 106 was the place to be today as Folk Artist, Cordelia Miller led a colorful, hands-on acrylic painting workshop. Participants learned everything from transferring patterns and base coating to sanding, dotting, and even a little splattering (the fun kind).

Together we created hand-painted Valentines, and everyone headed home with paints and brushes to keep creating.

A huge thanks to Cordelia for sharing her talent so generously and for giving us a fun, relaxing afternoon and creative reset.

Keep an eye out for upcoming workshops at Art at 106—more creativity and good company are on the way.

Don't forget to drop by and see the wonderful Art made by our talented artisans. There's something here for the Valentine on your list!
