🇺🇸⚓ Happy 251st Birthday to the United States Navy! ⚓🇺🇸

October 13, 1775 – October 13, 2026

On this day in 1775, the Continental Congress authorized the creation of a naval force, laying the foundation for what would become the United States Navy.

For 251 years, the U.S. Navy has defended our nation, protected our freedoms, and upheld a proud tradition of honor, courage, and commitment.

As Sea Cadets, we have the privilege of introducing the next generation to those same traditions and values. Through leadership, teamwork, discipline, and service, our cadets are learning what it means to be part of something greater than themselves.

Today, we celebrate not only the incredible history of the United States Navy, but also the generations of sailors who have served, sacrificed, and helped shape the world’s finest Navy.

🇺🇸 A Special Evening with Mount America! 🇺🇸

Some of our cadets had the privilege of joining our friends at Mount America for their annual fundraiser, where they proudly presented the colors and shared a reading of “Old Glory.”

There is something special about watching our cadets take part in moments like these, honoring our nation’s flag while representing our unit and supporting an organization we are proud to call a community partner.

A heartfelt thank you to Mount America for including us in this wonderful evening and for the continued friendship and partnership.

We wrapped up this past weekend’s drill with an awards ceremony recognizing several of our cadets for their achievements and accomplishments.

These moments are a great opportunity to celebrate the hard work, dedication, and progress our cadets continue to make throughout the year.

🩹 TRAINING THAT MATTERS

This weekend, our cadets took part in military casualty care training, learning skills designed to help them respond when every second counts.

After classroom instruction, they put what they learned into practice with hands-on scenarios—working together, assessing casualties, and learning how to provide care in an emergency.

These are the kinds of skills we hope they’ll never need to use, but ones that can make a very real difference when it matters most.

A very special thank you to Dr. Mike Knapp for sharing his time, knowledge, and experience with our cadets. We are incredibly grateful for instructors who invest their time in giving our cadets opportunities to learn skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

🇺🇸 Honoring Those Who Served, Sacrificed, and Never Came Home 🇺🇸

Today, cadets from the William E. Taylor Division had the privilege of participating in the 9/11 Heroes Run, joining our community in remembering the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honoring the first responders, military members, and countless others who answered the call to serve.

The words displayed at today’s event say it best:

“If not me, then who…”

We are proud of our cadets for taking part in a day dedicated to remembrance, service, and honoring our nation’s heroes.

🇺🇸 September 11, 2001 — We Will Never Forget

Twenty-five years ago, our nation changed forever.

8:46 AM — American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center.
9:03 AM — United Airlines Flight 175 struck the South Tower.
9:37 AM — American Airlines Flight 77 struck the Pentagon.
9:59 AM — The South Tower collapsed.
10:03 AM — United Airlines Flight 93 crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after passengers and crew fought back.
10:28 AM — The North Tower collapsed.

Today, the William E. Taylor Division remembers the nearly 3,000 lives lost and honors the first responders, service members, and ordinary Americans who answered an unimaginable day with extraordinary courage.

For some within our own Sea Cadet family, the memories of that day and the days that followed are deeply personal. We are especially mindful of those who traveled to New York to help in the aftermath and carry those experiences with them still.

25 years later, we remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸⚓️

🇺🇸 250 Years of the United States of America 🇺🇸

On September 9, 1776, the Continental Congress officially adopted the name “United States” in place of “United Colonies.”

Today marks 250 years since our young nation took on the name we still proudly carry today. From 13 colonies to the country we know and serve today, it’s a pretty incredible piece of American history worth remembering.

🇺🇸 On This Day in American History 🇺🇸

On September 3, 1777, American forces fought the Battle of Cooch’s Bridge in Delaware during the Revolutionary War. It is traditionally recognized as one of the earliest—and possibly the first—times the newly adopted Stars and Stripes was carried into battle.

Just months earlier, on June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress had officially adopted our nation’s flag.

Nearly 250 years later, the Stars and Stripes continues to represent the courage, sacrifice, and service of generations of Americans. Today, we’re proud to honor the history of Old Glory and the men and women who have defended all that she represents. 🇺🇸

💣 If you thought hanging out with SWAT was cool… we weren’t done yet. 😎

The Wilmington Police Department Bomb Squad also spent some time with our cadets, giving them an up-close look at some of their pretty awesome “toys” and explaining how their specialized equipment helps keep officers and the community safe.

Robots, bomb suits, specialized equipment…just another day with the William E. Taylor Division. 😉⚓️

We can’t thank the Wilmington PD Bomb Squad enough for taking the time to share their knowledge and give our cadets another experience they won’t soon forget! 💙🇺🇸
