New Castle Firefighters Local 160

Last night, firefighters were dispatched to a commercial structure fire on the city’s South Side. Crews arrived on scene within two minutes of dispatch and found smoke showing from the roof. A general alarm was immediately requested to summon off duty firefighters.

Crews stretched a 2 1/2” hoseline along with a 1 3/4” high rise pack to a second floor mezzanine and began the fire attack. After overhaul crews returned to service.

No injures of firefighters or workers were reported. North Beaver Township Fire Department assisted covering the city while crews operated on scene.

Last night, Firefighters were dispatched to a commercial structure fire in the city’s Downtown. Crews arrived to find smoke and flames showing from the first and second floors of the structure, firefighters performed a search and stretched a 1 3/4” handline and began to attack the fire. A general alarm was dispatched to summon off duty firefighters.

Multiple handlines and aerial master streams were used to extinguish the fire and to protect the exposures located on both sides of the structure. After extensive overhaul crews returned to service.

Crews were assisted by, Shenango Area Fire District, North Beaver Township Fire Department, Hickory Township Fire Department and Neshannock Township Fire Department.

During this evenings City Council meeting, four newly hired firefighters were sworn in. Ben Bryson was sworn in as a full time firefighter, and Sean Carlock, Jocelyne Lemay and Jesse Moody were sworn in as part time firefighters. Congratulations to you all!

Early this morning, Firefighters were dispatched to a residential structure fire on the city’s North Hill. Crews arrived to find smoke and flames showing from multiple sides of the structure, firefighters performed a search and stretched a 1 3/4’’ handline to the first floor and found the seat of the fire and began suppression. A general alarm was dispatched to summon off duty firefighters. After extensive overhaul crews cleared the scene and returned to service.

No injuries occurred. The Shenango Area Fire District and Hickory Township Fire Department assisted on scene.

This morning, Firefighters were dispatched to a residential structure fire on the city’s East Side. Crews arrived to find smoke and flames showing from multiple windows on the second floor, firefighters preformed a search and stretched a 1 3/4’’ handline to the second floor and found the seat of the fire and began suppression. A general alarm was dispatched to summon off duty firefighters. After extensive overhaul crews cleared the scene.

During fire suppression, one firefighter suffered minor injuries and was transported to UPMC Jameson. Shenango Area Fire District assisted on scene and North Beaver Township Fire Department assisted covering the city.

Monday evening, New Castle Firefighters were requested to assist the New Castle Police Department with evidence recovery in the Neshannock Creek. Members of the swift water rescue team were deployed to search the water. A handgun was recovered and turned over to investigating officers.

This afternoon, Firefighters were dispatched to a residential structure fire on the city’s East Side. Crews arrived within 3 minutes of dispatch to find smoke and flames showing from the second floor, firefighters stretched a 1 3/4’’ handline to the second floor and found the seat of the fire. A general alarm was dispatched to summon off duty firefighters.

During overhaul firefighters were dispatched to a vehicle fire in the city’s Mahoningtown neighborhood , available units cleared the scene along with Shenango Area Fire District . Units cleared both fires and returned to service.
