This morning, firefighters were dispatched to a residential structure fire on the city’s South Side. Crews arrived to find smoke a flames showing from the structure and immediately requested a general alarm to summon off duty firefighters.

Firefighters performed a primary search and began to extinguish the fire with a 1 3/4 handline. After extensive overhaul crews returned to service. No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation.

On behalf of IAFF Local 160, we would like to congratulate Firefighter John Biangone on his retirement from the New Castle Fire Department.

John has proudly served the citizens of New Castle for 34 years. His final assignment was at Engine House #7 in Mahoningtown, serving on Turn 2.

Thank you, Brother Biangone, for your years of commitment, sacrifice, and service. Enjoy your retirement!

Friday afternoon, firefighters were dispatched to the East Side of the city for a patient who had fallen from a cliff. Crews arrived on scene and gained access to the patient, who had fallen approximately 40 feet from a rock wall onto a 45 degree hillside. Firefighters immediately began an assessment and provided medical care.

Due to the steep angle, firefighters also began assembling a rope rescue haul system. A general alarm was dispatched to assist with patient extraction and to cover the city for additional calls. Once the patient was extricated, care was transferred to EMS for transport.

🚨AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT EST TONIGHT🚨

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has issued a Code Red Air Quality Alert for Fine Particulates until midnight EST
tonight.

A code RED air quality alert means that air pollution concentrations within the local region are unhealthful for the general population.
The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding outdoor exercise or strenuous activity.

This afternoon, firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire on the city’s East Side. Smoke was visible while en route and a general alarm was immediately requested to summon off duty firefighters.

Crews arrived to find fire and smoke showing from the structure. A primary search was performed and firefighters began fire suppression. Multiple 1 3/4” and 2 1/2” handlines were used. After extensive overhaul crews returned to service.

No injures were reported. North Beaver Township Fire Department assisted covering the city while crews operated on scene.
