The Vineyard Theatre and The National Black Theatre: Institute for Action Arts have launched a “Pay-It-Forward” ticket initiative for the world premiere of Bowl EP, written and directed by Tow Playwright-in-Residence Nazareth Hassan.

The program invites audiences to purchase extra tickets, making it possible for others to experience this groundbreaking production, lowering barriers to access to the arts. The arts are a vehicle for empathy, representation, and social cohesion and this inclusive effort underscores the meaning of the work.

Bowl EP is a genre-defying play featuring live skateboarding, original music, and a 360-degree stage design. The show runs through June 8 at Vineyard Theatre.

Last week, the New York Times published a profile on the work of Fountain House, sharing the story of Arvind Sooknanan, a board member at the Bronx Fountain House. Arvind is an example of what people with serious mental illness can accomplish. His work, inside and outside of Fountain House, including running a successful political campaign, sometimes while homeless, is an inspiring testament to Arvind’s commitment and the community that supports him.

Community-based supports, like the Fountain House clubhouses, allow people living with serious mental illness to contribute, belong, and thrive. Fountain House seeks to improve health, increase opportunity, and end social and economic isolation for people living with serious mental illness.

He ran a successful political campaign, sometimes from a psych ward, sometimes living on the street. He has found a way to thrive.

As students across the country graduate from medical school this spring, over 100 new doctors will receive The Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award presented by The Arnold P. Gold Foundation, which recognizes graduating medical students who are exemplars of humanism in the care of patients and families.

One honoree this year is Mitchell McDaniels, who experienced first-hand the effects of compassionate care in the face of trauma. "Medicine is more than science,” he says. “It’s about the connection you form with that patient as you bring care to them."

The Arnold P. Gold Foundation is ensuring that the pipeline of medical professionals is both strong and filled with talent that understands the most human elements of health.

Investigative reporting by The Marshall Project shows why the infirmary might be the most dangerous place inside US prisons. Keeping the public informed through powerful journalism empowers systems change. The Marshall Project is a nonprofit news organization that seeks to create and sustain a sense of national urgency about the U.S. criminal justice system.

Following the high profile beating and death of Robert Brooks by corrections officers in a medical room, The Marshall Project's investigation found dozens of other similar cases where incarcerated people were assaulted in the infirmary because the room lacks cameras.

After guards beat Robert Brooks to death in December, The Marshall Project found dozens more allegations of abuse in medical rooms lacking cameras.
