💙 October is Dyslexia Awareness Month!

If you have a child with dyslexia or learning differences, this is an event you won’t want to miss!

Sometimes, the most powerful thing a parent can hear is a young person sharing their story and reminding us that learning differently doesn’t mean you can’t achieve incredible things.

Join us at Darien Library to hear from local high school student Crosby Stelben, creator of Read Your Way, as she shares her personal experiences, offers hope and encouragement to families, and introduces her inspiring program!

Crosby will be joined by two incredible voices in the learning differences community:

⭐ Jake Sussman, founder of Superpower Mentors, who empowers young people with learning differences to recognize their strengths and build confidence.

⭐ Margie Gillis, president of Literacy How and a nationally recognized expert in literacy and reading instruction.

Whether you’re navigating a new diagnosis, advocating for your child, or simply looking for encouragement and resources, this conversation is for you.

📣SCARECROW FEST IS MOVING BACK ONE WEEK!

Our Heroes & Legends will now take over downtown New Canaan October 19–November 2!

And there’s a pretty special reason why. 💗

The Nor’easter delayed Project Pink New Canaan beautiful Paint the Town Pink display, cutting short their time to share such an important mission with our community.

We know how much heart and hard work goes into something like this—and we want to support them in getting the time and visibility they deserve.

Because that’s what community is about: supporting one another and helping meaningful work and powerful messages get their time to shine. 💗

SPEAKER SPOTLIGHT: Sgt. Kelly Coughlin + Ashley McClain 💙

What if the first time a first responder met your loved one wasn’t during an emergency?

Sgt. Kelly Coughlin of the New Canaan Police Department is an incredible force for the disability community, continually going above and beyond to listen, build relationships and create meaningful inclusion.

Ashley McClain, a mom, advocate, social worker and Founder of LINKED- Autism Safety Project has carefully developed first responder training that has reached 40+ Connecticut municipalities and is now expanding nationally.

Inclusive Together has been grateful to help bring Ashley’s training to both New Canaan Police and New Canaan EMS—and now we’re bringing Ashley and Kelly together with families for:

UNDERSTAND & CONNECT
Building Relationships Between First Responders & the Disability Community

Because training matters. Relationships matter. And building understanding before an emergency happens can make all the difference when it matters most.

📣SPEAKER SPOTLIGHT! Some parts of parenting are hard to say out loud. 💙

You can love your child more than anything and still feel overwhelmed by the journey. You can be grateful and exhausted. Hopeful and scared. You can advocate fiercely for your child while quietly wondering, Where is the space for me in all of this?

At Inclusive Together, we believe there should be space for all of it.

That’s why we are so grateful to have Jenna Guja, MSW, Founder of UniquelyMothering, leading Breakout Session 2 at our Community Connections Fair:

“Navigating the Unexpected: Making Space for Grief, Growth & Self-Care”

This will be a small, intimate conversation for parents raising children with developmental differences—a place to talk honestly about the complicated emotions, unexpected turns and identity shifts that can come with this journey, while connecting with other parents who truly understand.

You spend so much time making sure your child has what they need.

Maybe this is one hour you give to yourself. 💗

We are intentionally limiting Jenna’s session to just 12 participants, and spots are filling quickly.

YES — BRING THE KIDS!

We’ve heard from a few parents who thought they needed to find childcare to attend our Inclusive Together Community Connections Fair, so we want to make this very clear:

Your kids are welcome at fair! Just not at our optional breakout sessions.

Bring them with you. Walk around the fair together, meet our community partners, discover resources, ask questions, make connections, and spend the afternoon with families who understand.

The breakout sessions are the only part of the afternoon that are for adults only. They’re completely optional — you can come and enjoy the entire Community Connections Fair without attending a session.

We created this fair to make it easier for families to find support and connection — not harder.

No sitter? No problem. Bring the kids. Come as you are. We want you there.

We’re bringing together trusted resources, experts and organizations to support neurodiverse and special needs families—and this is one of the sessions we are especially excited about.

Jake Sussman, Founder of Superpower Mentors , will be joining us for a practical conversation designed especially for parents of kids with learning differences in grades 5–8 & high school.

As our kids get older, parenting changes.

How do we support without taking over?
Motivate without constant reminders?
Help them become more independent without everything becoming a battle?

Jake grew up with learning differences himself and has spent thousands of hours mentoring neurodiverse youth around the world. He understands these kids—and how powerful it can be when parents learn to work with them as partners.

Jake Sussman is also an incredibly gifted speaker and has spoken all over including NBC News and Harvard Business School.

And you won’t just listen & be inspired. You’ll leave with practical tools you can start using with your child right away.
