New Canaanites:

For years the League of Women Voters has sponsored candidate debates and brought candidates before the public to hear their positions on issues important to the voters. It has been drawn to our attention that with no debates scheduled this year in New Canaan they are sorely missed. We consider this a compliment to our past efforts to provide an opportunity for the public and candidates to meet one another.

This year will be different with other options to hear the candidates. With the recent re-structuring of voting districts, New Canaan has ended up with 6 voting districts. The logistics of organizing separate debates is an unwieldy task for one LWV to undertake, therefore we opted to skip running our own debate this year.

Since Greenwich, Wilton and Westport LWVs have organized debates, we invite each of you to connect into those debates:
www.wiltonLWV.org
www.LWVwestport.org
www.LWVgreenwich.org

In addition, LWVCT has prepared a comprehensive voters guide which is updated with current voter information—candidates’ backgrounds, election positions, answers to questions posed to the candidates:
www.vote411.org/connecticut

Though not organizing debates this election season, we have indeed been active with a new focus on our youth initiatives. Two very successful efforts have been developed: Non-partisan Clubs have been formed at the High School and St. Lukes and the students have registered new voters at the schools, the Sidewalk Sale in July, and downtown registration sites. These new efforts are attracting youth who are interested in learning about the structure of government and becoming more educated voters. We invite everyone to join our new focus.

🗳️Today is the day!

🏫 Polls are open until 8 pm, so make sure you are in line by then! (Though New Canaan polls rarely have lines.)

🗺️ You may have a new polling location! New Canaan’s Voting Districts have changed. Look up your polling location here, as well as check your voter registration status: https://portaldir.ct.gov/sots/LookUp.aspx

📋 CT has same day registration (EDR); if you are a New Canaan resident and you’ve not yet registered, you can register to vote AND vote at New Canaan Town Hall today until 8 pm, 77 Main Street.

💻 New Canaan’s State Senate and State House Districts have also changed. Learn about who (and what!) is on your ballot, as well as other nonpartisan voting information, on our website. Click here for our Voters Guide, a shorter version of which you should have received in the mail: http://www.lwvnewcanaan.org/votersguide2022.html

❓As you’ve heard us talk about, learned about during the debate, and read in our Voters Guide, your ballot has a question on it known as a referendum. You are being asked if the legislature should be given the opportunity to discuss Early Voting in CT, which is one of only four states without Early Voting in the entire country. Because any laws around Early Voting would require a change to CT’s constitution, voters must decide whether or not legislators should be allowed to raise a bill on Early Voting. Said another way, the ballot question is not asking voters if there should or should not be Early Voting; voters are being asked if the State House and Senate have permission to discuss it. Learn more here: https://my.lwv.org/connecticut/voting/early-voting-ballot-question

Happy 🇺🇲!! Time to get out there and use your voice to make a difference by casting your Vote. Tag in your election selfies and show off those I Voted stickers ❤️

Polls are open from 6am - 8pm today. If you are in line at 8pm, stay in line until your vote is cast! 🗳

Anyone with a completed, signed and sealed absentee ballot has until the close of polls to return it to your Town Clerk or drop it off in your Town's Official Ballot Drop Box 📮

If you still need to register to vote, look up your town's Election Day Registration location and head on over with your photo ID and proof of residency. YES you can STILL register and vote today ✨️
https://portal.ct.gov/sots/election-services/election-day-registration/election-day-registration

And Don't Forget to VOTE YES for Early Voting! Find the ballot question on the front or back of your ballot and answer before turning it in!

‼️Today is the last day of pre-election voter registration‼️

What does that mean? Today is the last day to register to vote online, by mail (postmarked by), or in person UNTIL Election Day.

Miss today’s deadline? Don’t worry! Connecticut has Election Day Registration (EDR) which allows voters to register to vote and vote on Election Day on Tuesday, November 8th at Town Hall.

Missed the Candidates Debate? We've got you covered!

We've made it easier for you to stay informed this year with our virtual Candidates Debate (moderated by fantastic students from the New Canaan High School’s Debate Team!) by having the recordings online for you as 5️⃣ individual debates this year: House 42nd, 125th, 142nd and Senate 26th and 36th.

All you have to do is find the 2️⃣ debates (1️⃣ House, 1️⃣ Senate) in your New Canaan Voting District to hear what candidates running in your district have to say. (Or watch all five if you have time!)

As a reminder, we now have 6️⃣ New Canaan Voting Districts instead of 3 with 3️⃣ polling locations instead of two, 3️⃣ House Districts instead of two, and the existing House and Senate Districts have been adjusted due to post-Census redistricting.

Even if you think you know your districts, it doesn't hurt to double check! Your New Canaan Voting District may have changed. You can check your Voting District here:
