We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Dr. Amanda Dubois Mwake as the new Executive Director of Crossing Thresholds!
Amanda is no stranger to Crossing Thresholds. Her journey with the organization began many years ago while she was on staff at Lehman College in New York City, where she helped organize and lead several Crossing Thresholds trips to Kenya. It was during one of those early trips that Amanda met her Kenyan husband, Felix Mwake.
In 2012, Amanda joined the Crossing Thresholds Board of Directors, where she served for nearly 10 years. After stepping away in 2021, she completed her Ph.D. in Global Leadership and went on to serve as Executive Director of Future Five Inc. in Stamford, Connecticut. She also continues to serve as an adjunct faculty member in the Organizational Leadership Graduate Program at Lehman College.
With extensive experience in higher education, service learning, and organizational leadership, Amanda brings a wealth of knowledge, passion, and compassion to this new role.
When Crossing Thresholds began planning for Carter’s succession, Amanda quickly stood out as the right person at the right time. Following her return to Kenya in June, where she co-led a Crossing Thresholds trip with Felix, it became clear that the next chapter was beginning. We are delighted that Amanda accepted our offer and will officially begin as Executive Director on November 1, 2026.
We are incredibly excited and confident that Amanda will help lead Crossing Thresholds forward with renewed vision, energy, and purpose!
As Crossing Thresholds looks toward its next chapter, Carter will transition into the role of Founder/President, working closely with Amanda as they share leadership responsibilities over the coming years.
Carter plans to retire in 2029, when Crossing Thresholds celebrates its 20th anniversary. This carefully planned transition will allow for continuity while bringing renewed vision and energy to the organization.
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Amanda Dubois Mwake to this new chapter of leadership! Amanda Dubois Mwake
