Trichopilia galeottiana
Grown by our member Ralf Wahl in his greenhouse.
This rare species is from premontane forests of southern Mexico and Central America where it is most often found growing on oak trees.
Fragrant like sweet honey, this charming orchid appreciates a seasonal winter rest, reducing water and lower temperatures, for best flowering in the spring and summer.
Although it loves water, growing it in an open, very well drained mix with lots of air seems to be the trick to prevent it from rotting. Here you can see Ralf is growing it in a wood Vanda basket which dries quickly.
A well grown specimen like this will have flowers circumferentially around the pot. Well done!
