(SOE) derived out of a need to help Young Ladies and Women of all ages, race, social, and economical backgrounds improve their quality of life. Our focus is those of low to moderate income in Essex County and Union County, New Jersey and surrounding communities.

Plainfield, meet the woman bringing us together. 💜 Rev. Dr. Selina D. Carter’s own journey helped shape SOE and its work to help Black girls and women recognize their worth, build healthy relationships and find their voices.

Tomorrow, October 17, we’re inviting you to stand with her at SOE’s first annual Domestic Violence Awareness Walk. You don’t have to know someone’s story to care about their safety.

When people hear “domestic violence,” they often picture two adults in a relationship. But abuse can happen between teen partners, from a parent toward a child, or between other family or household members. Dating violence, child abuse and family abuse have different names, but they all deserve our attention. 💜

Being someone’s partner, parent or family member does not give them the right to hurt, threaten, humiliate or control that person. And children who witness violence at home need support, too.

Share this so someone knows: what you’re experiencing matters, and you deserve to feel safe.

New Jersey, this is happening in our communities. 💜 On one day, participating domestic violence programs served 1,315 adults and children, yet 116 requests for help went unmet because resources, funding or staffing fell short.

Behind those numbers are people looking for safety. When someone confides in you, listen without judgment, respect their choices and ask how you can help.

Registration begins at 8:30 AM.
The walk begins at 10 AM and ends at noon.

WHO CAN JOIN?
All are welcome! Bring your family, children, friends and neighbors.

Yes! The walk welcomes both in-person and virtual walkers.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Purple, comfortable walking shoes and a layer for the cool weather.

From Costco and Wawa to Ruth Fellowship Ministries, our walk leaders, volunteers, and teams, people are coming together to help SOE turn Plainfield purple this Saturday.

Behind every announcement is the same purpose: standing with survivors, remembering those we’ve lost, and connecting our neighbors with support. The refreshments, decorations, and community resources are coming together. Your presence belongs in this picture, too.

Bring your family. Call your friends. Wear your purple. Let’s give every survivor one more reason to know they’re not alone.
