Founded in 1831, the Rutgers Alumni Association (RAA) is a 501(c)3 service organization maintained by and for the graduates of the School of Arts & Sciences, Rutgers College, the School of Engineering, the former College of Agriculture, the former School of Education, the Mason Gross School of the Arts, School of Management and Labor Relations, the Graduate School – New Brunswick, and other intere

sted alumni from Rutgers New Brunswick/Piscataway campus. Chartered in 2008 as the largest affinity organization of the university-wide alumni association, the RAA's purpose is to create a vital, beneficial, and continuing relationship between Rutgers and its alumni around the globe. It partners with the university and other affinity groups on events such as Alumni Weekend and Homecoming. The RAA also independently publishes 1766 to inform members about issues that concern them, provides funding to support student organizations, awards an annual scholarship to a deserving legacy student, develops career seminars for graduates, and offers opportunities for volunteer service in all aspects of university life — from participation in governance committees to mentoring undergraduates. As the fourth-oldest organized alumni association in America, the Rutgers Alumni Association is proudly supported by a volunteer army fueled by over 250,000 alumni constituents.

With heartfelt sorrow and deep admiration, we honor the passing of former Dean and founder Dr. Sandra Harris—a trailblazing pioneer in services whose compassion and vision shaped our community in lasting ways.🕊️

Joining in 1969, Dr. Harris founded the Douglass Developmental Disabilities Center—one of the first of its kind in the U.S.—and later served as Dean of GSAPP. As a mentor, educator, and advocate, she guided generations of students, clinicians, and educators, while supporting countless families through her work.

She leaves behind a remarkable legacy of leadership, innovation, and unwavering care. We are deeply grateful for her contributions, and her impact will continue to be felt for generations.

The Eagleton Institute of Politics mourns the passing of Professor Gerald “Gerry” Pomper. Gerry was a part of the Eagleton Institute for nearly fifty years and exemplified its mission to link the study of politics with the practice of politics. As a scholar, an educator, and a citizen, Gerry modeled the sort of engaged democratic citizenship we have taught our students for 70 years.

A Board of Governors Professor of Political Science at Eagleton (Emeritus), Gerry was a faculty member for the Undergraduate Associates Program for years. A specialist in American elections and politics, he was the author or editor of numerous books and was honored for career achievement by the American Political Science Association. Gerry cared deeply about civic education and active citizenship and practiced what he preached. Over the years, he served on his local board of education and his local zoning board, led summer institutes for high school teachers, and served as chair of the free speech committee of the American Civil Liberties Union.

Gerry’s scholarship, his teaching, and his public service impacted thousands over the years, and it was an honor to be his colleague. The Eagleton Institute of Politics extends our deepest sympathies to Gerry’s family at this difficult time.

Each Memorial Day we honor those Americans who died while defending our country and its values. While these heroes should be honored every day for their profound contribution to securing our Nation's freedom, they and their families should be especially honored on Memorial Day.
The bugler is Rutgers alum, Jake McDonnell, SAS '17, a 4 year member of the Rutgers University Marching Scarlet Knights. Jake continues to serve our country.
