Founded in 1831, the Rutgers Alumni Association (RAA) is a 501(c)3 service organization maintained by and for the graduates of the School of Arts & Sciences, Rutgers College, the School of Engineering, the former College of Agriculture, the former School of Education, the Mason Gross School of the Arts, School of Management and Labor Relations, the Graduate School – New Brunswick, and other interested alumni from Rutgers New Brunswick/Piscataway campus. Chartered in 2008 as the largest affinity organization of the university-wide alumni association, the RAA's purpose is to create a vital, beneficial, and continuing relationship between Rutgers and its alumni around the globe. It partners with the university and other affinity groups on events such as Alumni Weekend and Homecoming. The RAA also independently publishes 1766 to inform members about issues that concern them, provides funding to support student organizations, awards an annual scholarship to a deserving legacy student, develops career seminars for graduates, and offers opportunities for volunteer service in all aspects of university life — from participation in governance committees to mentoring undergraduates. As the fourth-oldest organized alumni association in America, the Rutgers Alumni Association is proudly supported by a volunteer army fueled by over 250,000 alumni constituents.

October 19, 1923, 103 years ago today, Antilles Field, Douglass Residential College, Rutgers U, New Brunswick, NJ is dedicated in honor of the sinking of the steamship Antilles in October 1917. At the time of the sinking in World War I, it was the greatest loss of American lives in any single engagement. The ceremony was attended by Captain H. T. Boyd who was in command of the Antilles at the time she was torpedoed. During the dedication ceremony, he told his story of the sinking by U-boat. Postcard of the SS Antilles c. 1910.

The RAA's Community Services Committee and other organizations combined forces at the Community Food Bank of New Jersey to assemble 600 boxes of pasta, which equates to 1509 individual bags of pasta that will be sent out to families in New Jersey. Great day!!

S. Mitra is the founder and CEO of URL-Media; she formerly was the Vice President of News, Opinion, and Programming at CNN. She was also previously part of the The Daily Targum.

Her work empowers voices that need to be heard and embodies the best of a Rutgers education.

Happy Birthday to Colonel Henry , who would be *very* confused by what Instagram is.

Henry Rutgers would be 281 years old today, and the bell he donated still rings out from Old Queens!

A well known figure of his day, Col. Rutgers legacy can be seen throughout NY and NJ, but his most well known connection is to the school that bears his name!
