Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. was founded at Howard University in Washington, DC on January

9th, 1914 by three young African American male students. Langston Taylor, Honorable Leonard F. Morse and Honorable Charles I. Brown wanted to organize a Greek-letter fraternity that would truly exemplify the high ideals of brotherhood, scholarship and service. The Mu Zeta Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. was established on the New Brunswick Campus of Rutgers University on May 2, 1980 by 29 trailblazing young gentlemen. These 29 brothers gathered together in the spirit of brotherhood to establish a chapter of a fraternity that did not follow the social trends of society. They truly believed that Brotherhood, Scholarship and Service should be kept uppermost in their hearts and minds and manifested in their everyday lives.
