Today, we honor Denim Day. What began as a moment of protest in 1999 grew into a global movement that brings people together to stand with survivors and promote respect. We must recognize injustice and make our voices heard, just as the women of the Italian Parliament did by wearing jeans on the steps of the Supreme Court.

Wearing denim today is a simple but powerful way to show support, spark conversations, and be part of something bigger. Across the country and right here in our communities, people are showing up in solidarity.

Today and every day, we uplift survivors and stand together.

Want to power student research opportunities? Consider giving to the Sheryl Lanman Nichols Memorial Fund Supporting Student Research on Ending Violence. This fund was established in honor of Sheryl Cara Lanman Nichols, a Master of Social Work alumna from Rutgers who worked tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of domestic violence survivors prior to her untimely death from cancer. We are so grateful to Sheryl’s family for their continued support of this Memorial Fund.

Sheryl worked at the Center for Research on Ending Violence (REV) on several projects related to addressing intimate partner violence among Latina populations. To honor this important work, the Sheryl Lanman Nichols Memorial Fund Supporting Student Research on Ending Violence provides funding for students to serve as research assistants who engage in one or more research projects that center on the victimization experiences, help-seeking responses, and well-being of Latina women. These research assistantships occur under the mentorship of Dr. Chiara Sabina, a national expert in this area and associate director at REV.

This is more than fundraising. It’s a story of impact—and you can be a part of it. go.rutgers.edu/lanmanmemorialfunds
