Dear SCNJ Families,
We are remembering you and your sweet child this Memorial Day weekend, and giving thanks to those deceased veterans who served America.
This weekend marks the beginning of the summer season in New Jersey, a time typically associated with barbecues, beach trips, and festivals. However, the arrival of summer can also bring a wave of challenging emotions for many.
The disruption of routines is a significant factor, with children out of school, vacations planned, and work schedules shifting. This change in pace can lead to feelings of instability and create more space for difficult emotions to surface. There's also a societal pressure to be happy and constantly engaged in social activities, which can be draining and isolating for those who are not in a celebratory mood.
For individuals who are grieving, the summer months can be particularly painful. The vibrant, blooming landscapes and the cheerful energy of the season can create a stark and painful contrast with their internal feelings of sadness and loss. Summer often holds powerful memories of past vacations and traditions with loved ones, and revisiting these memories without them can bring a fresh wave of grief and longing.
It's important to remember that it is okay to not feel okay, even when the sun is shining. Navigating grief during the summer can be overwhelming, but allowing yourself to feel and process these emotions is a crucial part of the healing journey. Grief is a testament to the deep love you have for the child you lost, and it is a journey that requires patience and self-compassion. Creating new, gentle traditions and finding moments for quiet reflection can be as important as creating new memories.
We are always here for you.
Sincerely,
The SCNJ Staff
