RWJUH Staff Go Orange for Gun Violence Awareness Month!
Gun Violence is one of the most urgent public health crises facing families and communities across the country, and it remains one of the leading causes of death for children and teens in America. Gun violence is preventable, when we all work together to create safer communities. Hospital Violence Intervention Programs (HVIPs) and Community Based Violence Intervention (CBVI) are an important part of addressing gun violence. At RWJUH, our HVIP collaborates with frontline workers, physicians, health care staff, survivors, community leaders, and with community-based organizations such as our partner, PRAB, whose licensed social workers provide therapy for our participants. Our WAVE (Working together Against Violence to Empower) Community Consortium strategizes to address holes in the safety net, to promote trauma informed care, and to address root causes of violence. Together we are creating safer communities by investing in healing, trust, and evidence-based solutions. If you’d like to get involved, please reach out to [email protected].
