✨July is here ✨

While our government is pushing 250 years of brutal colonization - “freedom” we know that while anyone anywhere is oppressed we will never truly be free. We also know that the luxuries some of us have in this country come at an unimaginably high cost- human lives.

Millions of innocent people, including those indigenous to Turtle Island, whose native lands have been colonized and stripped of their natural resources for profit. Whose family members are incarcerated in prison and detention centers all to push the capitalist agenda. Whose ancestors were enslaved people who were forced to build the infrastructure of this country.

In order to combat the capitalist agenda and amerikkkan nationalism, we must find and build communities, educate ourselves and others, and unpack whatever we carry that would enable this nightmare to continue.

This July: Read, make art, dance, find your people and grow together 🖤🌱

June is here 🍉🌻☀️

It’s Pride month we must never forget that Stonewall was a riot against the state, lead by Martha P Johnson, a Black Trans woman. Pride is not about letting the daily struggles against the rascist/ fascist/ transphobic / homophobic / genocidal state be co-opted by large corporations and watered down into rainbow capitalism.

Our communities here in the belly of the beast as well as across the globe, are being targeted simply for existing. Let us come together this month, and every month in spaces like the ones happening this month, and find power within our communities.

We keep us safe, and we can begin to build the world we want to live in. There’s no place for racism in Pride. There’s no place for transphobia in Pride. There’s no place for genocide in Pride. 🏳️‍⚧️ 🏳️‍🌈

Summer book Club 📚☀️🌴

Join us June 9th to kick off the 4th iteration of our abolitionist book club! We will be reading “All This Safety is Killing Us: Health Justice Beyond Prisons , Police, and Borders”. At our first meetup we will be discussing chapters 1&2.

Book club meets biweekly on Tuesdays 6:30-730pm. We meet both in person and hybrid, DM for more info, or if you need to get your hand on a copy of the book!

Remember reading is not mandatory to jump in on the conversation 🖤 hope to see you there !!

As the We Keep Us Safe Series comes to a close we want to yell THANK YOU from the rooftops to everybody who contributed in any way at all. This couldn’t have been possible without each one of you and we hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did.

Please share with us your favorite memory from any of the events, how we can do better and what else you might want to see as we continue to collectively reimagine what keeps us safe in our lives. 🫂🥰

CT4A stands against prisons in any form, for any person for any age, whether that’s in our backyard or across the country. We want an end to the expansion and existence of the Prison Industrial Complex.

CT State officials tried to build a youth prison in Tolland without anyone noticing. CT4A says No to a new youth prison.

We urge residents to stay informed about what’s going on in your backyards and join us in saying “No” to new youth prisons.
