Good news! The deadline to submit session proposals for the 2026 conference hosted by the Connecticut League of Museums has been extended to March 16.

If you were thinking about proposing a session but needed a little more time, now is your chance. This year’s conference, “The Next 250: Museums and the Future of Democracy,” will explore how museums are reflecting on the Semiquincentennial and what it means for the future of our field.

We are looking for engaging and thought-provoking proposals, including workshops, panels, roundtables, case studies, lightning talks, and interactive discussions. Whether you want to share a project, lead a conversation about a challenge facing museums, or explore an idea with colleagues, we would love to hear from you.

You do not need to be an expert to submit, and we especially encourage first-time presenters and organizations new to the conference to propose a session.

📅 New proposal deadline: March 16

Learn more and submit your proposal here:

Conference brainstorming sessions will take place on Zoom in advance of the deadline; sign up to share ideas, connect with other potential presenters, and speak with conference organizers.

There’s just one week left to submit session proposals for the 2026 Connecticut League of Museums Annual Conference.

This year’s theme The Next 250: Museums and the Future of Democracy” invites us to reflect on the Semiquincentennial of the signing of the Declaration of Independence

We’re looking for dynamic, thought-provoking proposals that engage topics such as:

- The many meanings of America 250

- Organizational and workforce resilience

- Resisting censorship and maintaining public trust

- Leading in times of crisis

- Serving communities in unstable times

- Creative and interdisciplinary collaborations

- Emerging technologies and their ethical implications

We welcome a range of formats: workshops, panels, interactive sessions, case studies, roundtables, lightning talks, think tanks, and working groups. We’re especially eager to hear from first-time presenters, art museums, and organizations new to the League. If you have an idea you’re curious about and are willing to facilitate a conversation, propose it!

From statewide advocacy to professional development and shared resources, every step forward this year has been possible because of you.

✨ Thank you for your partnership and for everything you bring to our museum network.

🎬 Looking for something to do tonight?

Head to Wesleyan University for a special film screening and director talkback:

🕖 Tonight, October 9 at 7:00 PM
📍 Ring Family Performing Arts Hall

Texas City explores the 1947 explosion of a fertilizer-laden ship in Texas City, Texas — one of the deadliest industrial accidents in U.S. history. Through powerful firsthand accounts from survivors, the film uncovers the human toll of the disaster, the town’s complex ties to industry, and the forgotten impact on marginalized communities.

Following the 93-minute screening, there will be a talkback with the film’s director, Arlo Weiner (Wesleyan Class of 2023).

This program will be of special interest to Connecticut’s museum and public history community, offering a moving example of how storytelling and memory can illuminate the intersections of industry, environment, and community history.

🎟️ Free and open to the public. A thought-provoking way to spend your evening!
