Another great New Britain Hunger Action Team (NBHAT) meeting today!
Believe it or not, we’re already talking about Thanksgiving. We discussed Connecticut Foodshare’s warehouse expansion and the impact it may have on this year’s holiday distributions. Planning ahead is essential, and we’re already working together to make sure our community is ready for one of the busiest seasons of the year.
I also shared that Connecticut Foodshare has reopened our partnership application process! If your organization has a brick-and-mortar location, is currently serving the community, and is interested in becoming a Connecticut Foodshare partner, we’d love to hear from you. Volunteers were another important topic of discussion. Our nonprofit organizations rely on dedicated volunteers to make our work possible. We encouraged community partners to join The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain’s Volunteer Hub so organizations can recruit volunteers and residents can easily find meaningful opportunities to give back. Thank you to our presenters! Jade from Klingberg Family Centers who shared information about their Connecticut Youth Screening Program, which helps identify youth experiencing mental health or behavioral health challenges and connects them with appropriate services.
We also heard from Iris, Liz, and Luis from CTLEAD, who highlighted the incredible work they’re doing through programs like Write To Rise, the Homeless Advisory Task Force, Women/Business Empowerment classes, civic engagement initiatives, and other resources that help strengthen our community.
Every month, I’m reminded that there are so many passionate people and organizations working to improve the lives of others.
Thank you to everyone who attended and for your continued commitment to making New Britain a stronger, healthier, and more connected community.
