Crisis Center of Comal County Our mission is to embrace survivors of abuse and trauma and empower them to positively change the trajectory of their lives.

The Crisis Center of Comal County was founded in 1986 as the Comal County Women's Center. Numerous local citizens began a grassroots effort to develop an agency that would address the needs of those experiencing domestic violence. In the beginning, the agency consisted of several volunteers who provided information and referral to other service providers in the area. As time passed and grant funding was obtained, the agency grew to include several paid staff and an emergency shelter. During those first years many of the agencyโ€™s clients also required sexual assault services. As a result, the center developed a sexual assault crisis services program to serve Comal County. A capital campaign fund completed in 1994 funded a six-bedroom full service emergency shelter. Since that time the staff has grown and includes shelter staff, licensed counselors, legal advocates, and crisis response staff members. In 2000 the shelter was expanded to 9 bedrooms and built new office space to provide additional services. As the number of clients increased the agency began to provide more services to men. As a result the agency name was changed to The Crisis Center of Comal County. In 2020, the agency served more than 1,526 victims, and expanded the shelter space to now accommodate 80 clients. The Administration team, counseling, legal and prevention services relocated to across the street at 1528 Common.

Strong communities are built through collaboration, compassion, and a shared commitment to protecting those most vulnerable. ๐Ÿ’œ

At this yearโ€™s Domestic Violence Awareness Vigil, New Braunfels Police Chief Osbaldo Flores reminded us of the importance of working together to keep families safe.

In 2025, Comal County recorded zero domestic violence-related fatalities. This is a powerful reminder of what can be accomplished when law enforcement, victim advocates, and community partners work together to prevent violence and protect lives.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Chief Os and the New Braunfels Police Department for their leadership, partnership, and unwavering commitment to survivor safety.

While even one life lost is too many, we remain committed to building a community where every individual and family can live free from violence.

๐Ÿ’œ Together, we are making a difference.

Happy National Bossโ€™s Day! ๐Ÿ’œ

Today, weโ€™re celebrating our CEO, Janis Parsley, whose leadership is rooted in kindness, compassion, and a genuine heart for others.

This photo, taken at our Domestic Violence Awareness Vigil earlier this week, captures Janis doing what she does bestโ€”showing up for our community and the people we serve.

Janis leads with grace, listens with intention, and reminds us that leadership is as much about caring for people as it is about accomplishing a mission.

Thank you, Janis, for leading with heart and showing us what compassionate leadership looks like! ๐Ÿ’œ

Thank you, First Footing, for helping bring awareness to the barriers survivors face when seeking safety. Together, we can support survivors with the resources, housing, and hope they need to rebuild their lives. ๐Ÿ’œ

For many, home is a place of safety and rest. But for survivors of domestic violence, home can be the most dangerous place of all.

Domestic violence is one of the leading causes of homelessness for women. Choosing to leave an unsafe environment often means leaving behind financial security, shelter, and everything familiar, all in a single moment.

During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we stand with survivors as they navigate the incredibly difficult journey toward safety, healing, and independence. Rebuilding a life takes immense courage, and access to safe, stable housing is the foundation where that healing begins. โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน

If you or someone you know is navigating an unsafe situation, you are not alone. Resources and confidential support are available. National Domestic Violence Hotline: Call 1-800-799-SAFE or text ""START"" to 88788
