One of the best parts of Texas Brigades is seeing cadets, Assistant School Leaders, and instructors continue giving back long after camp has ended.

At the Texas Trophy Hunters Extravaganza, members of the Coastal Brigade family volunteered at the Texas Brigades booth, sharing their experiences and introducing new families to the opportunities that Texas Brigades provides. Their passion for conservation and leadership is helping inspire the next generation to get involved.

Texas Brigades is built on a community of volunteers and mentors who believe in investing in young people. It’s inspiring to see the lessons learned at Coastal Brigade continue long after graduation, as participants return to support the program that helped shape them.

Every conservation leader needs the confidence to share their message.

As part of the final day of Coastal Brigade, cadets delivered graded presentations designed to strengthen their public speaking skills while challenging them to become ambassadors for the Texas Brigades mission.

Each cadet shared how they would spread the message of conservation and encourage others to become involved in Texas Brigades. Standing in front of their peers, mentors, and judges, they demonstrated not only what they had learned throughout the week, but also the confidence to communicate why conserving Texas' coastal resources matters.

The goal of Coastal Brigade extends far beyond one week at camp. It's about preparing young leaders to return to their schools, communities, and families with the knowledge and confidence to inspire others. Every presentation is another step toward creating lifelong advocates for conservation who will continue sharing the Texas Brigades mission for years to come.

That's a wrap on Coastal Brigade's Tenth Battalion.

A week ago, these cadets arrived as strangers with a passion for the outdoors. Today, they leave with new friendships, new skills, and a deeper understanding of what it means to be a conservation leader.

Throughout the week, they explored Texas' coastal ecosystems, worked alongside Texas Parks and Wildlife biologists, U.S. Coast Guard members, Texas Game Wardens, guides, and conservation professionals, and gained hands-on experience in fisheries science, habitat restoration, coastal ecology, fishing, kayaking, public speaking, leadership, and stewardship.

They learned that conservation isn't just about protecting fish and wildlife. It's about serving others, making informed decisions, respecting our natural resources, and leaving the coast better than they found it.

Coastal Brigade is more than a camp. It's an investment in the next generation of conservationists who will carry these lessons back to their communities and help protect Texas' coastal resources for years to come.

Congratulations to every cadet, instructor, volunteer, and partner who made the Tenth Battalion such a success. Thank you for your dedication to the Texas Brigades mission, and we'll see you next year.

After a week of hard work, hands on learning, and unforgettable experiences, graduation has arrived for Coastal Brigade's Tenth Battalion.

Over the course of the week, cadets explored the Texas coast through hands-on experiences that few people ever have the opportunity to take part in. They studied fisheries science alongside Texas Parks and Wildlife biologists, learned how fish populations are monitored through trawls, gill nets, dredges, fish tagging, and seining, and discovered the critical role marshes, coastal habitats, and restoration projects play in maintaining healthy ecosystems.

They developed practical outdoor skills through conventional fishing, fly casting, fly tying, kayak safety, fish identification, and species biology. They met with Texas Game Wardens, the U.S. Coast Guard, conservation organizations, and industry professionals who shared their knowledge, experience, and passion for protecting our natural resources.

They strengthened their leadership through morning marching, team-building challenges, stakeholder debates, public speaking presentations, and conversations with professionals who inspired them to pursue careers in conservation and natural resource management.

Most importantly, they learned that conservation is about more than fish and wildlife. It's about stewardship, service, science, leadership, and a commitment to leaving our natural resources better than we found them.

Congratulations to the graduates of Coastal Brigade's Tenth Battalion. The week may be over, but the impact of what you've learned is just beginning. We can't wait to see how each of you carries the mission of Texas Brigades forward and helps shape the future of conservation.

Today, cadets had the opportunity to hear from the instructors during a career panel, where conservation professionals shared the paths that led them to their careers and the experiences that shaped them along the way.

From fisheries biologists and wildlife professionals to guides and conservation leaders, each panelist offered insight into the many ways a passion for the outdoors can become a meaningful career. Cadets asked questions, learned about different career paths, and received advice on education, leadership, and pursuing opportunities in the conservation field.

One of the goals of Coastal Brigade is to inspire the next generation of leaders who will protect Texas' natural resources. Sometimes, all it takes is one conversation with someone who's been there to help a young person discover the path they're meant to follow.

This morning, Coastal Brigade cadets took part in their final judged march, putting a week's worth of practice, discipline, and teamwork to the test. What began as learning basic commands on day one became a demonstration of confidence, precision, and leadership.

Marching has always been about more than staying in step. It teaches cadets to communicate, pay attention to detail, work as a team, and lead with confidence. Those are the same qualities that make effective conservation leaders.

The final judged march wasn't just the end of a competition. It was a reflection of how much these cadets have grown throughout the week and a reminder that the lessons learned at Coastal Brigade extend far beyond camp.

The best measure of Coastal Brigade isn't what we say about it. It's what the cadets take home with them.

After a week of hands-on conservation, time on the water, leadership development, and learning from some of Texas' top wildlife and fisheries professionals, these cadets are sharing the experiences that meant the most to them.

Every cadet's journey is different, but each leaves with new skills, lasting friendships, and a deeper appreciation for Texas' coastal resources.

Hear what Coastal Brigade meant to them, in their own words.

Another incredible day at Coastal Brigade is in the books.

The day began with morning marching, reinforcing the discipline, teamwork, and leadership that set the tone for everything that followed.

Cadets then stepped into the role of conservation leaders during a mock stakeholder meeting, debating real-world redfish and blue crab regulations from the perspectives of anglers, guides, commercial crabbers, and conservation organizations. It was a firsthand look at how science, public input, and diverse viewpoints come together to shape fisheries management.

The hands-on learning continued with kayak safety training, planting coastal grasses as part of a habitat restoration project, and a visit from Texas Game Wardens, who shared how they protect Texas' fish, wildlife, and natural resources through conservation law enforcement and public education.

Throughout the afternoon, cadets showcased the skills they have developed all week during casting and fly tying competitions before putting everything into practice during the annual fishing tournament. It was an opportunity to demonstrate not only their angling abilities, but also the confidence, patience, and conservation ethic they have built throughout the week.

The day concluded with another evening of classroom instruction, bringing together the lessons from the field with the science and stewardship that make Coastal Brigade such a unique experience.

Every activity, from the classroom to the coast, is preparing these cadets to become the next generation of leaders dedicated to conserving Texas' coastal resources.

Tonight, Coastal Brigade cadets put their skills to the test during the annual fishing tournament. After a week of learning proper casting techniques, fish identification, fisheries science, conservation, and responsible angling, it was time to apply those lessons on the water.

The tournament wasn't just about catching the biggest fish. It was about demonstrating the skills, confidence, and knowledge each cadet has developed throughout the week. Every cast reflected hours of practice, patience, and instruction from the conservation professionals and mentors who have guided them along the way.

The evening was a celebration of everything Coastal Brigade is designed to accomplish—building capable anglers who understand that enjoying our fisheries goes hand in hand with protecting them. The fish caught tonight were only part of the success. The real achievement was seeing how far these cadets have come in just one week.
