South Texas Buckskin Brigade is a hands-on, 5-day, immersive learning experience designed to educate participants about the ecology of white-tailed deer, its habitat and diet, population dynamics, and natural resource management. South Texas Buckskin Brigade is a program of Texas Brigades, a Texas-based 501(c)(3) focused on educating and empowering adolescents to become conservation ambassadors fo

A congratulations to the 26th Battalion's Assistant Herd Leaders!

These outstanding young ambassadors have spent the past year promoting the conservation message and serving as leaders in their communities. After dedicating the year to sharing what they learned, they returned to camp ready to lead by example and help guide the next generation of cadets.

Each year, herds and instructors vote on a cadet who truly shows the heart of what South Texas Buckskin Brigades is all about — a place for youth to grow in their leadership, conservation, and wildlife skills.

August did not just grow in those areas; he shined in them. One of our committee members said it best: “If all of us only had the attitude and perspective that August had, this world would be a much better place.”

We are so proud of everything August has accomplished and hope to be a little more like August each and every day!

These young ladies put in the work from day one and earned every bit of their spot at the top. Through long days, new challenges, and plenty of learning opportunities, they showed dedication, teamwork, leadership, and a willingness to step outside their comfort zones.
