One of our many wonderful projects is to volunteer with CAPs. We furnish the snacks and help monitor the hallways while the children are taught to play a musical instrument and enjoy art projects.

Tuesday was our day to volunteer at the SOS Food Bank. Geez, was it busy! We gave out 2261 pounds of food to 28 families which included 37 children. Thank goodness we had several extra volunteers that wanted to help. We were exhausted, but it felt so good to have help the families in need.

Yesterday was our monthly volunteer day at SOS Food Bank. Wow, we were so busy that I forgot to take any pictures 😖
There were 11 families that had 23 children needing food. We bagged 1030 pounds of food for them. In addition to giving out food and loading it into their vehicles, we took the huge bags of sugar and made 2 pound bags to give out. We did the same for potatoes. Then we made lots of “basic bags” that includes pasta, canned fruit, rice, cereal, beans, etc.
We also have a member who logs in all the person’s information who is requesting help.
By the end of the afternoon, we were all ready to take a break
Oh, we love volunteering at the SOS food bank. Helping families just makes your heart feel so good.

We had such a good time just having a club “get together” Friday evening. We met at a new restaurant that only has outside dining. The food was delicious, the drinks were great, but the visiting with each other was awesome.

Kiwanis of new Braunfels has been involved with the city wide event that the local police department host each year, called “Cops and Kids”. Different organizations, nonprofits, and community groups get to have a ‘booth’ to display information about their organization and gives out free items to those interested. NB Kiwanis gives out small containers with a form inside with spaces that you complete as to your medical information, family and friends contact information There is a sticker inside that you take and place it at your front door. Then you complete the form providing information as to your medical history, your doctors information, your medication, etc. Then you put the paperwork inside the bottle and put the bottle in your refrigerator. If there is an emergency and EMS is called, and when they arrive a they see the sticker at the door way and know where to look for the information
They take that information to the hospital with you and the medical staff can quickly respond to your medical care. They will also be able to call your family or friends.
