🐴❤️ THIS IS WHAT SECOND CHANCES LOOK LIKE! ❤️🐴

Saturday, October 17th, isn't just about a playday. It's about showing our community what rescue, rehabilitation, patience, and second chances can accomplish!

As we gear up for our Saddle Up for Second Chances Benefit Playday at the Seguin Rodeo Event Complex, there is something I am especially excited about.

Happened By Chance Horses will have MANY of our very own rescued horses participating in the day's events! Some have already found their forever homes, while others are still waiting for that special person to come along.

🐴 Oaklee
🐴 Layla
🐴 Gigi
🐴 Maniac

These four will be joining us, and ALL FOUR ARE AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION! ❤️

Each of these horses has a story. Each has a past. And each represents countless hours of care, rehabilitation, training, dedication, and people who refused to give up on them.

🌟 AROUND Noon, WE WILL BE SHOWCASING OUR HBCH RESCUE HORSES! 🌟

Throughout the arena, we will have BEFORE photographs of these horses displayed so that when you see them in person, you can look back at where their journeys began.

We don't just want to tell you what we do. We want you to SEE it with your own eyes.

You will see horses that once needed someone to fight for them. Horses that have been given the opportunity to heal, learn, trust, and become something their past circumstances may never have allowed.

For over 12 years, Happened By Chance Horses has worked to give horses in need a fighting chance. We've taken in horses others had given up on, horses that needed extensive medical care, horses that needed to learn to trust people again, and horses that simply needed someone willing to put in the time.

And time and time again, these horses have proven that their past does not have to determine their future.

Of course, we want this benefit to be financially successful. Caring for the horses that depend on us takes tremendous resources. But more than anything, I want the people of Seguin and our surrounding communities to see what Happened By Chance Horses is all about.

I want you to meet these horses. I want you to see their transformations. I want you to understand the work that happens long before a horse is healthy enough, confident enough, or trained enough to step into an arena.

Because rescue isn't just about saving a horse from a bad situation.

It's about everything that happens AFTER the rescue. ❤️

And on Saturday, we get to share the results of that work with YOU!

Whether you're coming to compete, cheer on the riders, browse our silent auction, grab something to eat, or simply learn more about our rescue, we hope you'll join us.

Last weeks weather/rain pushed our first round of farrier in the cycle until today. Started out nice and cool, ended up sweaty but we knocked it right out. We will have to be off next weekend for our Saddle up for Second Chances playday benefit, so will pick back up on the 24th. Thankful for all the help today.

Would like to introduce our cook and our arena drag crew. Bryan, Jamey and Josh practiced drinking some adult beverages and surely discussed taking turns driving the tractor with the arena drag in a few weeks. 🤣

We also turned Jamey’s garage into a mock benefit setting up the welcome table, auction items tables, banners we will hang, and Jamey used his blackstone and his smoker to cook the food. We wanted to try everything we would be offering as a combo at the benefit. It was all delicious. 🤤 Hamburgers on the blackstone and hot dogs in the smoker.

Between myself, Tracy, Suzanne and VNA we have a good idea how things will hopefully/should run and can pass that along to all of our amazing volunteers who are giving their time to the playday on 10/17.

Come on out for some good food, good times and a great cause.

Our silent auction is up to 87 amazing items and I have more items to pick up. 🥳. There is something for everyone!!

JC - Magic Maniac

For the naysayers.
For the doubters.
For anyone who has ever questioned whether giving a horse a second chance is worth it… .

Let JC Magic Maniac be your proof.

Maniac arrived at Happened by Chance Horses in September 2021.

He had virtually no coat. No tail hair. His skin was raw, infected and painful. And hidden beneath what you could see was an absolutely horrific puncture wound—approximately 6–8 inches deep, running internally and parallel to his re**um.

He didn't need someone to decide he wasn't worth the effort.

He needed someone willing to make the effort.

So that's what we did.

We treated him. We healed him. We fed him. We maintained him. We gave him time. And when he was ready, we started asking him for a little more.

Five years later, look at him.

And right now, a huge thank you goes to Suzanne Chenault and Kaidyn Chenault for the time, patience and work they are putting into Maniac.

As his training has progressed, a few quirks have decided to make an appearance. Rather than writing those behaviors off as “just how he is,” Suzanne and Kaidyn are patiently working with him, teaching him what is being asked of him and helping him work through those quirks one ride at a time.

Because a second chance isn't just saving a horse. It's continuing to show up for that horse long after the crisis is over.

This is what rescue looks like.

It isn't always dramatic. It isn't always pretty. It certainly isn't always easy. Sometimes it's years of feed bills, farrier appointments, veterinary care, training, setbacks, patience and simply showing up again tomorrow.

But then you get to watch a horse like Maniac become this horse.

So, to those who believe in what we do—thank you. Your support makes second chances like his possible.

🌟 SUPER DONNA G — OUR GIGI 🌟

Before she was our Gigi, she was Super Donna G, a Thoroughbred racehorse who made 49 starts on the track.

Think about that for a minute.

For 49 races, this girl's job was GO, GO, GO. 🔥🏇

Run fast. Get to the front. Cross that finish line.

So when Gigi's racing career ended, she found herself emaciated, alone and standing at a lot. Refeeding and retraining her wasn't simply about teaching her new things. We also had to teach her something completely different:

It's okay to slow down. ❤️

It's okay to walk.

It's okay to relax.

It's okay when nobody is asking you to race the horse beside you.

And it's okay to just be a horse.

That transition doesn't happen overnight. You're taking years of conditioning and an incredibly athletic Thoroughbred brain and asking it to understand that the job has changed.

And Gigi has made progress in it.

Today, the mare who once knew starting gates, racetracks and finish lines knows green grass, friends, scratches, full meals, training and a much slower way of life.

Although judging by the end of this video... Super Donna G is definitely still in there. 😂🔥

And now comes the best part:

❤️ GIGI IS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION SOON! ❤️

She's already had one career. She's been given the time and training to transition into life after racing. Now we're looking for the person who will give this beautiful girl her next career and her forever home.
A special thank you to Suzanne Chenault and Kaidyn Chenault for their efforts in re-training her. She is coming along!

Interested in adopting Gigi? Send Happened by Chance Horses a message. Adoption questionnaire, references and an approved home are required.

49 races. One completely different way of life. And now she's ready for her next chapter. 🐴❤️

Weekends at Happened by Chance Horses aren’t exactly restful, or cool, especially right now, but VNA and I got a lot done and burned a million calories, pretty sure.

On Saturday, we took a ride to the Co-op to pick up the special feed Anika eats, we then removed the last of the old hot wire and panels from one of our outdoor paddocks and replaced them with new panels. It looks so good!

Today was all about getting ready for the week ahead: putting out round bales, restocking feed in the pony barn, filling all the hay huts and the back barn, and topping off waters. Hondo and Alana, our resident “sea horse,” were happy to help with that last job—as long as cooling off counted as helping. 💦

Around here, weekends are for getting ahead of the week to come. We’re tired, but it feels good to see it all done!
