*There’s a TLDR version at the bottom. 😉

Hey everyone! First things first – I owe you an apology for going radio silent on the New Braunfels Scheren.
I postponed back in March for mostly selfish reasons (you know how close St. Baldrick’s and their research is to my heart). That same amazing organization gave me the chance to go to Washington, DC and speak to lawmakers about bills affecting pediatric cancer research and rare diseases. I had to choose what mattered most, and honestly? I felt like we could shave heads anytime.

Then it hit me – why not separate our two big San Antonio area events? Especially since September IS Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Win-win! Plus, with back-to-back events, it’s been tough for us to really support each other on the day of.
So here we are. Back in June, I had this gut feeling something was off with our venue situation. Unfortunately, it’s taken this long to confirm we need a new spot. I’m talking with one venue now and hopefully two more tomorrow.
The event IS being postponed, but it’s absolutely still happening in September. I’m looking at the last two weekends of the month, and I’m hoping to announce the official date before this week is out.
Even if we have to get creative, the Scheren WILL happen in September 2025. Period. I can’t promise it’ll be in NB, and honestly, that might be a conversation for 2026. 😉
If you’ve been waiting for a sign to sign up – this is it! We need shavees and volunteers, and I’m pumped to announce we’re adding a silent auction! I’ll get our current prizes posted soon, and we’d love any baskets or goodies you want to donate.

One more ask, especially for my families touched by pediatric cancer: My absolute favorite part of the St. Baldrick’s Alamo/San Antonio event is the signs honoring the kids – current fighters and those who’ve finished the ultimate battle. My son’s still hangs there every year.
These posters put faces to cancer and remind us why we do this. If your child (past or present) has battled cancer, we’d be honored if you could create a poster for them. We can even store them between events so we can display them each year as that powerful reminder of our “why.”

And at the end of the day, whatever day it is, whatever it is…our kids are what this is ALL about. 🎗️

If you have ANY questions or concerns, please call or text me.

✨✨✨TLDR version. ✨✨✨
The Scheren is being postponed due to an unfortunate issue on the back end. We are finalizing a date and new location this week! I’m aiming for the 20/21 or 26/27.

I’m too wordy so I’ll put the whole thing on FB and the first comments.

💚- Joscelyn

Hey friends! Please save the date for the rescheduled New Braunfel’s Scheren! Unofficially we will still at , time is TBD.

September is also Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, so it seems like a proper time to raise money for that exact cause.

You can sign up as a Shavee, Barber, Volunteer or simply make a donation here: https://www.stbaldricks.org/events/nbscheren2025

I’m the worst with event photos, I’m usually not in one place long, and I never stop to just watch what’s happening. This year was the first I noticed these words, and I just kept coming back to it. In light of why we were there…it just hit different.

We went into the weekend at about $14k raised. Before the event was over yesterday we hit $26k! We can continue to add to that until 12/31/24! In a couple days once everything is reconciled, I’ll post our grand total for the 6 years we’ve done this. When I announced at the start, we were over $235k.

This was our 3rd year at Freiheit, and I cannot thank Cody, Justin and their staff for being so great!

I hope that if you were there to enjoy your Saturday, that you learned a little about pediatric cancer as well! We try to make a really heavy subject…a little lighter. 💚

Much thanks to for allowing this to be possible!

This total doesn’t include the cash donations we received during the event, so our actual total is close to $23k!

That’s almost $23,000 donated to pediatric cancer research.

WELL DONE my friends! Again, thank you for your support, your donations, for your stories, thank your willingness to be bald for a few weeks in exchange for spreading awareness.

THANK YOU. 💚

Year FIVE is a wrap! Here’s our Shavee Recruiter being first on the chopping block today!

I cannot give enough thanks to my organizing team, my barbers, and everyone who donated today!

You truly are making a difference!! Tomorrow I will post our final numbers after todays event on how much we raised!

Here’s the thing, the event is over but if it wasn’t in the cards for you to donate today, totally fine! Our link will stay live until next year!

And this has to be to said. If your loved one came home today with no facial hair…eyebrows included, sorry not sorry. I promise they earned a pretty penny for it…or them. And I’m definitely talking about that firefighter from Live Oak who put who his eyebrows on the table. THAT is dedication to the cause! 💚

More photo proof that we have F U N at our events! This was taken at another St Baldrick’s event, before the Scheren was born but it needed to shared! This poor guy was willing to have his eyebrows shaved, in hopes of raising more money for pediatric cancer research.

I think his buddies were in on it, because somehow he left with only one eyebrow shaved! I’m not sure which is worse, losing one or both! 😂

Are you going to brave the shave with us on Saturday?

Have you considered making a donation to the ? I promise we won’t make you shave your head (or your eyebrows!) 💚

In just 5 days 30 brave souls will be taking the stage and shaving their heads…come out and support them, have a drink and some good food at ! I promise you won’t regret it!

I’m a little biased, but this may be one of my favorite photos from all of the events I’ve been a part of. This is my daughter, and her father a couple of years ago. He grows his beard every year and and she shaves at least part of it.

The WHY were here, WHY we do this is a heavy subject, it absolutely is, but I cannot stress to you how much these events are FUN. We do not focus on the sad stories, we focus on making it fun and celebrating these kid’s lives. We want them to live their lives to the fullest, regardless of how long they have. We

LIVING is what matters.

We would love for you to join us on March 4th at for the 5th Annual New Braunfels Scheren. We would love it even more if you made a donation, no amount is too small. And if you are so moved shave your head too, because your hair will grow back. I promise. 😉

And if you have questions about the Scheren or St Baldricks, don’t hesitate to DM us! 💚

This sweet little face, Mister Cheeks, also affectionately known as Alan, was also stolen away too soon due to cancer. His parents continue to raise awareness through a St Baldrick’s Hero Fund because they know how important the research they fund is.

Here is Alan’s story:

Alan, also known as Mister Cheeks because of his face-busting smile, was an impish monkey with a lot of personality.

Keeping such an active boy entertained during treatment was a huge challenge and he liked to boss us around just to keep us on our toes. Alan loved letters, monochromatic animals like Pandas, Zebras, and Penguins, Sponge Bob Square Pants, the games (and tickets) at Chuck E. Cheese, playing at Morgan’s Wonderland, watching donuts being made at Kripsy Kreme (and then eating them). But most of all he loved numbers. Reading them, counting with them, typing them, adding them. He was so brilliant with numbers that when we knew we would most probably lose him, we ached knowing that he would never be able to reach his full potential. Alan slipped away from us on January 17, 2013 at the age of five, after almost four years of fighting a sarcoma tumor in his hip.

We lost Alan because our doctors, despite every effort, simply didn’t have enough answers. While Alan was in treatment, we had the motto “Fight’s on!”. Alan fought for so long, from such an early age, that fighting cancer was virtually all he knew.

Alan's spirit was 'supernova bright'. A supernova is a very large star (which typically shines brighter with a much shorter life span) that comes to the end of its life cycle and explodes with an intensity that can exceed an entire galaxy of stars. And that explosion of light forms the building blocks for new stars and new planetary systems. We think of Alan’s life, his spirit, and all the people he had touched with his joy. Now that he is gone, we have to continue to fight childhood cancer in his name. The end of one life, sowing the seeds for other lives to shine.

Today is International Childhood Cancer Day.

I’d like to introduce you to Desmina, I met her momma at Cook Children’s on her first visit up there. And we quickly realized our kiddos had the same cancer, and unfortunately we eventually lost them both.

Here is her story:

Dez was diagnosed with cancer April 20, 2015. We knew something was wrong but didn’t know what. She was refusing food and complaining of stomach pains the months leading up to her diagnosis. Dez had a clean bill of health January.
April 17 I took her to see her pediatrician. The pediatrician palpated her abdomen and told us that we needed to go get her scans. That evening she called us that we needed to go to the ER straight away. We were met by the oncologist. She told us that it could be one of two things. Neuroblastoma or neurofibromas, which is more favorable. She told us she doubted it was NB based on her age. She gave us a glimmer of hope. That hope was taken away with us on April 20. Our lives were forever changed. We were in patient more than we were outpatient. Dez endured almost five years of harsh chemo treatments, blood transfusions, high dose radiation, and so much more. Both her and Bodhi’s childhood was stolen. Dez finally succumbed to the disease January 7, 2019. No one should ever have to go through this. Cancer is an ugly disease.

Please consider making a donation to our event, or better yet, sign up to be a part of our event! You won’t regret helping save a life like Desmina’s.
