It’s a common misconception that homelessness is "just" about a lack of money or a house. For many of our neighbors in New Braunfels, it’s a battle with PTSD either from their past or from the compounded trauma of surviving on the streets.

That is why First Footing prioritizes Safety First. By providing a stable, secure environment and partnering with mental health experts like Hill Country MHDD, we create a sanctuary. We give our neighbors the one thing they need most to start recovering: Peace.

This PTSD Awareness Month, let’s change the conversation. Let’s look past the "behavior" of homelessness and see the "trauma" underneath. Share this to help us spread understanding. 💚

☀️ For most kids, summer is about freedom. But for many working parents in New Braunfels, it’s about a "childcare cliff."

When school is in session, it provides a reliable foundation. When it ends, families are suddenly hit with a massive financial burden.

This is where the cycle of homelessness often begins. One unexpected bill or one month of "childcare vs. rent" can put a family on the street.

That’s why First Footing is so vocal about the need for affordable childcare. We aren't just here to provide a bed; we are here to support the systems, like those prioritized by the McKenna Foundation, that keep families stable, working, and housed.

It’s easy to help people who fit into a neat box. But what happens to the neighbors who don’t?

The ones with complex histories, unique barriers, or those who have been told "no" by every other system?

For our team it’s about filling the gaps in New Braunfels. It’s about standing in the corner with the individuals that society tends to ignore. 💚

We believe that no one is "too far gone" or "too difficult" to help. Every neighbor deserves a first footing, especially the ones who feel like they’ve run out of options.

In New Braunfels, we know the summer heat is no joke. Heat exhaustion and dehydration can become life-threatening in a matter of hours.

We are putting out a call for "Heat Relief" items to help our neighbors stay safe, hydrated, and protected until they can find a permanent place to cool down.

The numbers are in, and they are heartbreaking. In the last two years, the number of young adults (ages 18–22) experiencing homelessness in New Braunfels has doubled!

For many, this struggle is the result of past trauma or simply being priced out of their own hometown before they’ve had a chance to start their lives.

We’ve decided to bridge that gap.

First Footing is proud to announce a new partnership with Connections. We are providing specialized transitional housing designed specifically for the unique needs of young adults.
