Remembering and honoring our bravest men and women today and everyday, thank you!

History and Meaning

George Washington: On August 7, 1782, General George Washington created the first award. It was called the Badge of Military Merit.

Oldest Award: It is the oldest military award still given to soldiers today.

The New Medal: The award was brought back and named the Purple Heart in 1932.

The Meaning: The purple color on the medal stands for the blood of those who suffered or died for the country.
