This is a Sad Day for Our Haitian TPS Holders

Today, we received with profound sadness and deep concern the news that the United States Supreme Court has allowed the Trump administration to move forward with terminating Temporary Protected Status (TPS) protections for Haitian nationals while the legal battle continues. This decision affects hundreds of thousands of hardworking Haitian families who have built their lives, served their communities, strengthened our economy, and contributed immensely to the social fabric of our nation.
At a time when Haiti continues to experience unprecedented violence, political instability, humanitarian crises, and massive internal displacement, returning individuals to such conditions is neither humane nor consistent with the values of justice, compassion, and human dignity that have long defined America. The U.S. Department of State itself continues to maintain serious travel warnings regarding Haiti, underscoring the dangerous realities on the ground.
We stand in solidarity with every Haitian family living in uncertainty and fear today. We recognize the emotional, economic, and spiritual burden that this ruling places upon thousands of workers, healthcare professionals, business owners, church members, and community leaders who have faithfully contributed to this country for many years. Their presence has enriched our communities, strengthened our institutions, and demonstrated the resilience and determination that characterize the Haitian people.
Yet, even in moments of disappointment, our faith calls us not to despair but to persevere. Scripture reminds us:
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1)
And again:
“We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair.” (2 Corinthians 4:8)
Our commitment to advocacy remains unwavering. We will continue working alongside elected officials, legal partners, faith communities, and grassroots organizations to pursue legislative solutions that permanently protect Haitian families and uphold the principles of justice and human dignity. Recent efforts in Congress to preserve and redesignate Haiti for TPS demonstrate that this fight is far from over.
To our Haitian brothers and sisters: do not lose hope. Remain informed, seek competent legal guidance, stay united within your communities and churches, and continue believing that justice and mercy will ultimately prevail. As a people, we have overcome countless trials throughout our history, and by God’s grace, we shall continue to stand firm.
