Merry Christmas to all!! Enjoy a short story of a fabled Knights Templar, Saint Nick.

Saint Nick, the Knight of Christmas

Long ago, in ancient times, Saint Nick was a knight known for strictly keeping his vows as he traveled the winter roads, earning his name from his dedication and charity, rather than his rank.
As a Knight of the Temple, he was driven by a strong will to protect the Christian faith and care for the defenseless. He joy of others was his inspiration. His oath of loyalty was to Christ, followed by his brethren in the order and all who were dependent on them. The widows, the orphans, the weary, and the forgotten knew his name because his arrival was never boastful but always well-timed.
Saint Nick dressed in red, in significance of sacrifice. The white trim stood for the purity of his intention in his heart. He may have gone wherever the wind took him in winter, but with him came not only loaves or money, but solace, dignity, and hope. A warm blanket for a widow. A pair of boots for a young one. A loaf of bread left in the darkness and before dawn at a doorstep.
Yet he wanted neither thanks for his efforts nor the satisfaction that comes with them, preferring instead the solitude of his actions that reflected his personal struggle between his sense of obligation and his need for anonymity.
When asked the question of why he was giving away so much, Saint Nick would smile under his beard and say, “Because the true gift has already been given.
He spoke of the Child, born in a place not exactly elegant, wrapped not in silk but in straw, with the virtues of love instead of power, service instead of royalty, and selflessness instead of comfort, all the things Saint Nick wanted very much to emulate.
Saint Nick knew very well that it wasn't what was carried in his sleigh that counted, it's what had already been carried on the cross.
He discovered happiness not through giving gifts, but by fulfilling his promises. As a result, he gave generously.
"True charity, done in love and in silence," Saint Nick believed, "was the guiding force behind all of his actions, making him stand out from everyone else in a manifestation of God’s kindness."
Over the years, each Christmas became a time to light candles, sing hymns, and reflect on Saint Nick’s legacy. More than a gift-bringer, he embodied his faith as a servant of Christmas, reminding us that its true meaning lies in remembering why it began, not simply in receiving gifts.
St. Nick understood that the true spirit of Christmas was born in Bethlehem and redeemed the world through love.
Saint Nick, the Knight of Christmas, carried on his journey with cheerfulness, loyalty, and honor.

The Light of the Cross at Christmas
(-A templar Christmas poem, by Francis L. Anson )

Where candlelight in silence glows,
And ancient stone remembers oaths,
The Knights assemble, young and old,
Their sacred vows once more retold.

No crown of kings, no bloodline claimed,
No earthly rank from which we came.
We kneel where faithful feet once trod,
Before the altar, before our God.

By creed alone we wear their name,
Not flesh nor kin nor mortal claim.
Yet bound in word and deed we stand,
By Cross and oath, by Christ’s command.

Around them gather hearts made one,
Spouse and child, each daughter, son.
Warm blessings flow where prayers are said,
Where faith is lived, where souls are fed.

No sword now laid on cold stone bare,
But yielded up in humble prayer.
To Him who died, yet rose again,
Our living hope, our victory won.

Four candles stand in solemn line,
Four sacred lights through space and time.
No age can dim, no night erase
The promises of saving grace.

The first flame burns with gentle hue,
A whispered vow forever true.
Through darkest nights its glow remains
The Light of Hope that still sustains.

Prophets spoke and hearts believed,
The world once groaned, now stands relieved.
A Savior comes, the heavens sing,
All praise the newborn, promised King.

The second candle softly calls
What peace survives when empires fall?
Not forged by steel nor ruled by fear,
But born in straw with angels near.

In lowly hay, in humble place,
Heaven reached down in boundless grace.
The Prince of Peace to earth was given,
A holy gift from highest heaven.

The third flame dances, bright with cheer,
A joy the world could never steer.
No crown could buy, no gold secure
The mercy Christ made strong and pure.

Come shepherds, with you hearts laid bare,
This joy restores what sin laid there.
Death undone, its power stilled,
By love made flesh, the law fulfilled.

The fourth candle pours out love divine,
From heaven’s throne through space and time.
Not earned by might, nor won by fame,
But sealed forever in His Name.

No tournament nor earthly boast
Could claim the love that matters most.
It came not crowned, nor robed in might,
But wrapped in flesh, the world’s true Light.

Then shines the Christ Candle, clear and bright,
The fullness of God revealed in light.
Not palace-born, nor power displayed,
But Child made low, the Cornerstone laid.

Now raise the toast of Knights of old,
To Him whose love our hearts now hold.
From shore to shore, from east to west,
From coast to coast where faith finds rest.

At daylight we rise, one sacred band,
In fraternal vow, and covenant stand.
A bond not born of blood or sword,
But sealed in Christ, our Captain Lord.

O Holy Child of Bethlehem,
Be born in us, now and again.
Clothe us in grace, and your courage steer,
Teach us to serve with hearts sincere.

Let tables wide with bread be spread,
Let prayer be shared, let none be led
To stand alone or walk apart
Make home again each wounded heart.

For Christmas lives where Christ is known,
In lives redeemed, in mercy shown.
In open hands and welcome cheer,
In love made real from year to year.

No crown we seek, no power we claim,
No glory won through blood or fame.
We kneel, we rise, by Light made strong,
No walls divide where hearts belong.

So, ring the hall with hymns once more,
Let joy resound from floor to floor.
Christ the King was born that year
Proclaim it loud for all to hear
Hope.
Peace.
Joy.
Love.
All glory be to Jesus’ name.
Amen.
Alleluia.

We observe Veteran's Day by paying tribute to both contemporary heroes and biblical figures, whose exemplary courage and righteousness serve as a source of inspiration. The York Rite, a historic fraternal organization founded on the principles of chivalry and service, plays a significant role in promoting the values of integrity, obedience, and devotion to God and country, which are especially pertinent on Veteran's Day.
Similarly, the Bible provides numerous accounts of individuals who demonstrated remarkable faith and courage in the face of adversity, such as Joshua and David, whose stories serve as a testament to the power of conviction and bravery. Gideon led his army of only 300 men, because it was God’s will to prove his presence and not numbers, that gave him the victory. And Benaiah, one of David's mighty men, killed a lion in a snowy pit, proving that faith and valor are the best of friends. The same spirit of courage and duty is with our Veterans as well, those who answered the call, stood tall in the face of danger and shouldered the burden of freedom for others. Building on the examples of faith and courage from the Bible, as members of the York Rite, we are guided by the principle that service is a sacred duty, and courage is derived from faith, which we believe continues to inspire and lead those who serve.
As we reflect on the spirit of service and courage, it is also important to remember the historical context of Veteran's Day, which originated as Armistice Day in 1919, marking the end of World War I with a moment of silence on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. It was renamed Veterans Day in 1954 to honor every single man and woman who has answered their country's call in every branch and every generation, recognizing the sacrifices and contributions of all veterans beyond just those of World War I. We as knights and companions continue the example of service and faith and never forget the words of Joshua 1:9 "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." As we reflect on this day, let us remember the men and women who have given everything they have so that we can be free today. In conclusion, as we commemorate the spirit of service and courage embodied by both biblical warriors and modern veterans, let us unite in our commitment to upholding the values of duty, courage, and gratitude, honoring the sacrifices of those who have served.

York Rite Chapter meeting on Tuesday September 9. Attend if you can, we always enjoy working with our Companions. Meal at 6pm, with the meeting at 7pm.

We must remember that as our life and house are important to us, the house and work of the Lord is important to all, forever.

Haggai 1:12–15 — The Call to Action

Picture the scene: the people had been delaying the work on God’s house, focusing on their own homes. Then the prophet Haggai delivers God’s word, and suddenly everything changes. Zerubbabel the governor and Jeshua the high priest rally the people. The whole camp stirs with urgency, workers gather tools, families prepare, and leaders give direction. It is a whirlwind of activity as “they came and worked on the house of the Lord of hosts.” God Himself stirs their spirits, making this a season of revival and non-stop labor.

“Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the Lord their God… And the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel… and the spirit of Jeshua… and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and worked on the house of the Lord of hosts, their God…” (Haggai 1:12, 14).
