If you’ve ever wanted to learn more about a rose show, this is a MUST watch. One of our members recently won queen (1st) and princess (3rd) of the SC State Fair Rose Show. Come take a look behind the scenes, as the journey to the fair began in late August. https://youtu.be/SodKRgJbAnk?si=k2xybBBNhBaHJhYA

An older rose, hybrid tea Touch of Class in the garden tonight from one of our members. This rose was bought for $16 at one of the big box stores in the early spring. Through continued care it’s well over 4 feet tall now and produces brilliant blooms that have a consistent spiral form. While you often have a larger variety available online ther come as bare root roses, always check out what you may have locally.

One of the biggest benefits to joining a local rose society like ours is the social aspect! We have monthly meetings and yesterday we had one of the best meetings in recent memory. We visited the Rose Garden of Nick Fritz. His father and him have been hybridizing roses for over 30 years! Their goal is to find a rose that is not only disease resistant, but also has fragrance and form. We had a lovely talk from both Nick and his father and then we had a chance to see all of the roses that have been bred through the years in their backyard. We also had a great explanation from Nick on how one goes about hybridizing their own rose.

Not only has the rain been beneficial to our gardens the past few days it makes for some good pictures. On some of the most gloomy days the brightest roses shine through. Pictured is hybrid tea Louise Estes in the garden today.

As you begin to look at rose catalogs this fall and winter, Gemini should be at the top of your list if you don’t already have it. This hybrid tea has been around a while and it grows well and has consistently well formed very colorful blooms.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.
