HDRA members are invited to join us for the 2026 Annual HDRA Picnic at beautiful Magnolia Manor in downtown New Bern!

📅 Saturday, November 7th
⏰ 12:00–2:00 PM
🎟️ $20 per person

Your ticket includes a BBQ picnic lunch and one alcoholic beverage (b**r or w**e). Guests will also have the opportunity to tour Magnolia Manor and learn more about this beautiful historic property.

Tickets are limited to HDRA members only, with a limit of one ticket per member.

Last night, we were fortunate to have two excellent presenters speak to about 70 New Bern historic district residents. Mickey Miller talked about the history of historical preservation in New Bern, and the huge role that heritage tourism plays in New Bern. Wade Rogers, Restoration Specialist at the NC State Historic Preservation Office, spoke about the importance of preserving historic structures, key concepts for the maintenance of old houses, and the NC tax credit program.

The six nearly identical homes on Pasteur Street, known as the Six Sisters, were some of the first homes built in New Bern following the great fire of 1922. They were built by Dr. William Pinnix, who was the owner of the pharmacy that is now the location of the Old Pinnix.

In 2024, the New Bern Preservation Foundation acquired the Six Sisters to protect them and to find new owners who will restore and care for them. (The first several houses are now available to purchase.)

On Friday, September 11, the Preservation Foundation, the Art House Art Studio, and the Old Pinnix are having an event to showcase the Six Sisters. In addition to getting a peek inside some of the homes, there will be an "en plein air" art opportunity, and signature six sister toasts and drinks at the Old Pinnix.

Nominations Now Open for New Bern Historic Preservation Awards!

The City of New Bern’s Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) is currently accepting nominations for its annual Historic Preservation Award Program.

New Bern is home to an incredible collection of historic properties. This award program recognizes and celebrates historic property owners — both residential and non-residential — who have recently completed outstanding projects that enhance the property and the historic fabric of our city.
