🚨HAPPY EMS WEEK!🚨

This week, we’re proud to celebrate National EMS Week 2026 and recognize all of the EMTs and Paramedics, and EMD dispatchers who serve our communities every day.

This year’s EMS Week theme, “Improving Outcomes, Together,” is something we truly believe in. No agency can do it alone, and some of the best outcomes happen when neighboring departments come together to support one another. Whether it’s mutual aid calls, major incidents, or everyday emergencies, teamwork between agencies plays a huge role in providing the best care possible for our communities.

Our department is proud to operate a Fire Responder Program, with many of our members credentialed as EMTs and Paramedics. These providers help bring emergency medical care to our community quickly and work side-by-side with surrounding EMS agencies to make sure patients receive the highest level of care possible.

We’re thankful for the partnerships we have with all of the neighboring departments, EMS agencies, dispatchers, and healthcare providers who are always ready to answer the call alongside us.

To everyone working in EMS and public safety — thank you for your dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving others. We appreciate everything you do.

Happy EMS Week! 🚑🚒💙

After the Great Lakes Fire of 2023, the Croatan Area Fireshed Partnership formed from a group of partners who are working to reduce the impacts of wildfires near the Croatan National Forest.

Collectively, we’ve completed over 16,500 rapid wildfire risk assessments in Craven County from September 2025 to February 2026.

Please help us ensure homeowner voices count! When you receive a household survey from us, please complete the survey and mail it back using the postage paid envelope.

The data collected from the survey will help the Croatan Area Fireshed Partnership understand how to best support residents and properties for wildfires in the future.

The data collected through the survey will NOT be used for tax purposes or to force anyone to take action of any sort. It will help us better plan for, prepare, and live with wildfire in our communities.

The statewide burn ban remains in effect until further notice despite weekend rain in some areas. Persistent dry weather and increasing rainfall deficits from the last several months have left most of the state needing 10 inches of rain or more.

“While the rainfall we received over the weekend was a welcome sight, it offered little to no relief from widespread drought conditions while being nowhere near enough to reduce our wildfire risk,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “Even the areas that received the heaviest amount of rain will quickly dry out from the sunshine and warmer temperatures. Until we get some additional rain and see more green-up in our forests, holding the burn ban in place statewide is the best option right now.”

While green-up and leaf-out are progressing at normal rate, low soil moisture, dry surface fuels and persistent low humidity are contributing to wildfire activity. For Western North Carolina, excessive forest fuels from Hurricane Helene are more available now than they were in 2025, low water levels in coastal areas have helped produce intense fire behavior where ground fire will likely be a long-term issue, and the Piedmont experienced 87 new wildfire starts over the weekend alone. Extended attack and mop-up efforts will be taxing and long-winded until drought conditions improve.
